Robman, et al,

Please forgive me, but I can't find an FAQ or a guide for controlling multiple ReplayTV 5000 series units with a single JP1 remote (not the original RpTV remote). I've owned several RpTV units for many years, but only today placed a second RpTV 5000 at the same location as another RpTV unit. I need to control each discretely with my 8910 remotes. I've read a number of FAQs and guides (ex: "How to Control Multiple Replays in the Same Location - AVSForum 2003) but they either speak in terms of 4000 series or older, or talk about setting Remote Lockout Code or Remote Machine Code, which I don't see how that plays into JP1. None of my RpTV units use IR blaster, so adding codes to control other equipment (cable box, STB, satellite box, etc.) is not a issue for me.

Could someone kindly point me to an FAQ or a guide addresses controlling multiple RpTV units from a single JP1 remote?

Oh... and since the mother-in-law can't remember how to run any of my 8910s, I'll also need to either hide all the original RpTV remotes, or figure out how to mod them to handle this situation too, but that is a much less important issue than getting the 8910 working with two units in one location.

TIA

That page is the best FAQ that you're gonna find. Here's the rundown, first you'll need to change your ReplayTV upgrades to use a unit code. If you're not using an upgrade, download one and change the unit code. You should load two copies of the upgrade into your remote, one with unit code 1 and another with unit code 2.

Next, you'll need to program the Replays to respond to these codes. With the old Showstopper/R2k series you would reboot the machine and then make sure that the first IR signal that it sees has the desired unit code in it.

As you're using the R5k series, you should follow the "Option 2" instructions on the AVS page to set one machine to unit code 1 and the other to unit code 2 ...

Quote:
Option 2: Remote Machine Code - 3rd Party Universal Remote

If you have a Pronto, JP1 remote or other advanced (PC programmable remote), you can set the machine code that the ReplayTV 5000 responds to. The ReplayTV 5000 will always response to machine code 0 in addition to whatever code you specify on the Remote Lockout Screen.

To set the Remote Machine Code:

Press Menu on your remote
Choose Setup.
Press 243 + Replay Zones on your remote
Use to Up or Down arrow keys to select Remote Machine Code
Choose the Remote Machine Code # (1 thru 15) using the Left or Right arrow keys
Choose Save these settings
Restart
