Hello,

I was pleased to see the thread that IR is being developed as part of RM. For linux users this is great...it means we don't have to install wine. So the -ir switch will run the java port of IR in Linux but has anyone got this to communicate with their remotes in Linux? What do I put in the port field since the auto detect isn't working? I'm running FC7.

/dev/ttySo? com1? etc? how can i find out and be sure?

What kind of cable are you using? RMIR only works with JP1 Parallel, JP1.x serial (optionally with a Linux supported USB-Serial cable) or Tommy's new JP1.2/JP1.3 USB cable (which looks like a Linux supported USB-Serial cable)

I've had success (under Ubuntu) with ports names /dev/ttyS0 (zero, not o) and /dev/ttyUSB0 (again zero not o), depending on the cable being used.

It turns out my user didn't have access to the /dev/tty[0123] ports so a simple sudo worked fine.

FYI, I am using the JP1.x serial cable...so I can confirm that it works well (for me anyway) under FC7 dist of linux.

Thanks for your help.

Using ir.exe under wine, giving the user membership of the "lp" group enabled the actual uploads/downloads to the remote to work. Maybe this is what is needed using the java version as well.

This is the thread in Software where people have shared their experiences:
