I have been able to code the 7950 as shown below, and it works as intended. That is, it selects the proper mode, TV or SAT on the remote, and at the same time selects the proper input mode on the TV.

On the device buttons:

Macro: TV Shift(-/--)
Macro: SAT Shift(AV)

On regular buttons:
Learned on TV: Shift(-/--) Hex 171
Learned on SAT: Shift(AV) Hex 185

Pushing TV 'pushes' Shift(-/--) emitting code 171 to TV.
Pushing SAT 'pushes' Shift(AV), emitting code 185 to TV.

And - the remote enters TV or SAT mode for proper operation of either device in respective modes.

I do not know why it works, but it does. That is, with just one button press I put the remote in the desired mode, and at the same time selects the proper input on the TV.

But I have not been able to create the same functionality on the Dream V4 remote.

I can code similar macros on the TV and DREAM buttons, but operation is erratic and useless.

I have coded the 171 and 185 codes to two buttons so I can select either input on the TV, but in addition I have to push the TV or Dream buttons to put the remote in the desired mode.

I also have tried to make the buttons 'push' TV or DREAM, but that didn't work either

Is there any way I could work around the problem?
