Urc 8910 no learning tab in ir remote?

Post by Randymac »

I built a parralel cable interface about 2 years ago and programmed it with an extender to control my tv, pvr, satt and sound system with no problems.
I recently got a new tv and found a keymapmaster upgrade that I was able to copy to IR remote and upload to the receiver. As there are a few more functions I want to add I reset the remote to factory defaults and learned some keys from the new tv remote which i verified do work on the urc 8910.
My problem is that when I then download from the urc 8910 with IR remote I show no learning tab so cannot get the codes I need to add to my KM upgrade. I am still able to upload and download from the remote, just no learning tab available. If I open an old download from a couple years ago that had some learned keys the tab does show up.
I have tried new and old batteries , switching one battery around to no avail.
It took me a while to figure out what I new a couple years ago so maybe I'm missing something simple.
Any body have any ideas before I try building a serial interface?
thanks

My guess is you don't have the unextended RDF in your RDF folder. If IR is already open, with an RDF in use, it doesn't tell you that it can't find the RDF, it simply shows you the current RDF which has no learning tab because you had it open with the extender.rdf
Close IR
Open IR again
Download from the remote
It will probably tell you no RDF found.

just checked that- I had a both an extended and normal rdf in my rdf directory and it kept using the extended one. I deleted it and all is good now.

If that was a real factory default reset, it would have changed the signature back from the extender signature to the default signature.

If deleting the extender rdf did that, either

1) The remote signature was the extender signature, so your reset wasn't factory.

or

2) When you installed the extender originally, you did so with an unusual RDF that didn't change the signature from the default.

your right johnsfine, I assumed the ops reset reset everything. Did a search and found the correct procedure for doing a factory reset and now I don't have to delete any rdf files.
I`ll see if I can return the help I've gotten here and upload my toshiba 47' lcd tv that has discrete power codes.
thanks
