Polaroid DRA-01601A HDD/DVD Recorder

Post by rpm1200 »

1. Device: Polaroid DRA-01601A
2. Type of device: HDD/DVD Recorder
3. Year: 2007
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: URC-44XXXB00 (Cox-branded Navigator; selecting URC-44000B00 in IR/RM/KM)
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes, simple parallel
6. Still have original remote? No
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? n/a

Hi everyone, I am a long-time OFA remote fan but just getting started with JP1 tonight. I got a Polaroid HDD/DVD recorder at Wal-Mart but it did not come with the remote. Looking to program an old Navigator because it is the only JP1 remote I have right now. There is some info on the Polaroid in this thread over at AVS: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=839036
According to that thread, the Polaroid DRM-2001G uses different codes from the DRA-01601A. Some people speculated that it might use Philips codes. Also, in that thread, someone over at Polaroid tech support recommended trying Magnavox codes. I tried the following devices with no luck:
Polaroid DRM-2001G HDD-DVD Recorder.rmdu
Magnovox_DVDR_MSR_90D6.txt
SV2000 wv10d6 (NB086).rmdu
PHILIPS DVDR3575H37.rmdu.rmdu
Philips DVD-HDD Recorder HDRW720-17 with Discrete Codes.rmdu
I could not find any Polaroid DVD recorder codes over at Remote Central.

When I paste the codes from RM or KM over to a new device in IR and assign it to the VCR device, I get this error: List index out of bounds (-1)
Does that mean anything or is it just a nuisance error? I can upload to the remote without issues and the remote seems to work OK afterwards.

Please let me know what I should try next.
Thanks, Rob

Good news!

It is responding to some codes from this file:
Lite-On_LVW-5101_DVDR-new.txt
(NEC1 protocol)
I will try to map all the buttons and post my findings when I'm done.
Thanks,
Rob

Finished... for now

I posted it in the file section. I am still missing four buttons (ADD/CLEAR, EDIT, RETURN, ANGLE) and there are two codes that always produce the "prohibited" symbol. These probably match up, I just need to get more familiar with how the player works.

Well, I would suggest just doing a manual code search. Sort your RM file (on the functions page) by OBC. You will see that every OBC for your device is in the range 000-031 or 064-095. So although your OBCs could be anything between 000 and 255, I would suggest testing out the "gap" OBCs in those 2 ranges. A quick look shows that the following OBCs are not used in your file: 005 and 067

Remotes: OFA XSight Touch, AR XSight Touch
TVs: LG 65" Smart LED TV; Samsung QN850BF Series - 8K UHD Neo QLED LCD TV
RCVR: Onkyo TX-SR875; Integra DTR 40.3
DVD/VCR: Pioneer DV-400VK (multi-region DVD), Sony BDP-S350 (Blu-ray), Toshiba HD-A3 (HD-DVD), Panasonic AG-W1 (Multi-system VCR);
Laserdisc: Pioneer CLD-D704.
Amazon Firestick
tape deck: Pioneer CT 1380WR (double cassette deck)
(But I still have to get up for my beer)

A friend of mine just bought one of these. It will be about a week until he is back in town, but I can borrow his remote and learn the codes, if no one else comes up with anything.

I did not have a lot of time to learn many commands but I did get your missing conmmands. The "Prohibited" display occurs any time you request an action that is not valid, usually when a disk is inside, many functions are inhibited.
Add/Clear OBC 82, EFC 103
Edit OBC 74 , EFC 039
Return OBC 20 , EFC 116
Angle OBC 79 , EFC 042

I'll leave it to you to develop an upgrade since I don't have the unit here for testing, although I will be interested in the results for my friend.

He commented that the original had limited range and was very directional. If the upgrade performs better, then I will program an upgrade to put into his 6131.

I suspect that your remote uses different signals because those OBCs all match functions that he was able to capture, unless they just coincidentally use the same OBC but perform different functions in different modes.

Return = DVD Menu
Edit = DTV Favorites
Angle = PIP
Add/Clear = Interlaced / Progressive

I looked at the .rmdu he posted and did not see the OBCs for those four functions. The remote is very confusing. The lables are located above the buttons and the transport buttons have no labels at all, making it seem that all the buttons are mislabeled. All the ones in his .rmdu match other functions that I learned.

If you open his file using RM and then sort the Functions by OBC it makes it easier to find the specific OBCs.

I actually did that and for some reason I wrote 82 but looked for 42
I think that the oddball labelling on the lower half of the remote is confusing the layout.
