Proscan VCR PSVR57

Post by ElizabethD »

I am trying to code for my son's VCR. The OEM remote is totally dead, I can't learn a thing from it.
Remote assistance isn't easy :(

On RemoteCentral I found two places where a Proscan VCR is. The model is PSVR57.
I've made them into .txt files in this zip. I don't understand the varying subdevice in Darryl's ccf file.
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=5144

There is also setup 0060 on this site. It works that VCR, but I used a built-in from 6131 and have no idea what they put where.
From 0060 it appears that the EFCs for ON is 483-256=227, and OFF is 731-512=219.
But I don't see what protocol or device and subdevice which I would need to make a full upgrade.

I'm looking for discretes, and the two ccf files have it.
Can someone check whether all these three places tell me the same codes, particularily
DiscreteON
DiscreteOFF

Also I don't see how to eject the tape (not that important)

I could use 0060 built in, but those discretes will come handy even if I don't make a full upgrade.

1. Device: Proscan VCR PSVR57
2. Type of device: Proscan VCR PSVR57
3. Year: old, no idea
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: learning 8910, destination 6131 2K extended
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? yup
6. Still have original remote? yup - dead
7. Checked the file section? yup
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes 2 places
9. Partially working setup code? VCR/0060
10. Learning remote question? no

I couldn't get the download of your txt file to work, so I have no clue what was in it.

Subdevice ???

The file I found has a Proscan VCR and an RCA VCR. Of course, both are really RCA. One is device 14 and the other device 13. There is no subdevice.

I'm not certain, but I don't think the device number choice (14 or 13) is related to the model name Proscan vs. RCA. I think 13 is simply an alternate device number for which an RCA VCR can somehow be programmed when you have two of them in use together.

I assume that is the standard VCR/0060, which is RCA protocol, device 14.

RCA is very consistent in OBC numbers of discrete codes across almost all types and models.

Discrete On is OBC=58
Discrete Off is OBC=59

There is a good list of standard RCA OBC numbers inside the RCA.irp file included with MakeHex.
ElizabethD wrote:Also I don't see how to eject the tape
Eject is normally OBC=64

I checked that CCF I mentioned. It has the standard discrete On (OBC=58, EFC=227) for both VCRs, but only one has the standard Off (OBC=59, EFC=219). The other has OBC=42 (which is the RCA power toggle function) named "Off".

Neither VCR in that CCF has eject.

Thanks, John.
The Darryl's file is the one you mentioned.

The other URL is in the text file which I just reuploaded again. Opera crashed after my first upload, perhaps that's why you can't see it.

I tried again and failed again. Is there anything there I still should want to look at? Is there part of this topic with which you still need help?

VCR/0060 info, including advanced codes, is available in many places. It is super consistent across models. You shouldn't need to use any difficult source.

Thanks again.
Here's the second source
Proscan PSVR57 pronto hex codes
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/co ... n/psv-r57/

these 2 are 2 of 41 codes in the file. Are they the same as the others?

Pwr On

I probably don't need any more info. Because once you told me these codes are consistent, then what I have is likely to work.

I'm having some sort of browser trouble. I post then I crash :(

They are device 14, OBCs 58 and 59, just as expected.

Thank you John. You're a gem and a a heap of experience!
I'll combine what 0060 on this site has with Darryl's list and I know it'll work now.
