JP1 Remotes

I'm using a diygadget JP1.2 serial cable, IR7.04, and RM1.81 to program a new 8820.

Unfortunately, many of the functions are ending up located on the wrong keys!

I've double-checked RM, to make sure I mapped the functions to the correct keys. I reloaded them into IR, just to make sure they were assigned to the right devices and key moves and so forth.

But, the functions seem to be all over the remote, randomly misplaced.

Has anybody had similar problems? Could it be the cable? Could it be the remote? Could it be IR or RM bugs?

I know it is not the upgrade files, as IR, RM and those files work fine with my JP1 remotes and cable.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks. (Otherwise, I'm returning the 8820, and buying my first non-JP1 remote in many years, a Sony RM-VL600.)

Scrambled buttons usually indicate a bad rdf. Are you using the latest rdf from the rdf distro zip?

Oh, and I was using IR7.03, not 7.04, if that helps.

EDIT: Yes. I am using what appears to be the latest RDF for the 8820:
10631063 (URC-6820_8820_10820).rdf dated 02/23/2007

I had a similar problem with a 8820, I would upload to the remote and then download, the download wouldn't match the upload. This happened on a new remote. I did a reset but can't remember if it was a mfr reset or a complete reset, anyways the reset fixed the problem and it hasn't returned yet.

Thanks! I'll try both types of reset.

EDIT: Nope. Didn't work. Did a 980 reset and a 981 reset, then re-loaded the IR file. Same crazy key mapping.

Diligaf - Can you check to see which RDF file you have for the 8820? (name and date) Thanks.

You are probably using the Alternate KeyMap. Open up your RDF and go to the [Settings] section and add
KeyMap=$01F.5.1.0.0 (Standard;Alternate)

In IR7's General Tab, on the right side is the Settings area and scroll down to KeyMap and select Standard.

You probably started out with a new .IR file. You should start with your initial .IR file that you downloaded and saved. Alternatively, you can download and use the .IR file after a SET-981 reset.

I'll give those things a shot. I'll start with the last one first.

EDIT: That last step worked. I downloaded from the remote, then made changes to that. No need to edit the RDF file.

It should probably be documented somewhere that creating a new IR file from scratch can cause these problems, and that one should always download from the remote first.
