I downloaded two separate upgrade files: Xantech RC68 & Xantech RC68 - Corrected, both dated 12/20/04, under miscellaneous device upgrades. When trying to open either of the two files, an "Import Failure" window opens, and reads "The upgrade you are trying to import is not valid! It does not contain a value for Remote.name" I'm no JP-1 guru by any stretch of the term, but have sucesfully downloaded and utilized a few different upgrades on my URC-8910. Can I somehow 'patch' in a value for Remote.name, or can somebody somehow help me otherwise.

Open them up in Word or Wordpad and you will see why you get an error.

did that, thanks, I opened other files as references, and did 'patch' in a remote name. The file now opens, but there's no useable information to utilize w/ RemoteMaster. It appears that some of the coding is in the .txt file, but not properly entered, and I know ZERO as far as any kind of programming or code writing goes. But thanks.

It's customary to provide links to files that you'd like people to look at as it saves them having to search for them. Anyway, I looked at the two files in question and as the 2nd was a corrected version of the first, I deleted the first file. I reformated the 2nd file so that it should appear OK when you download it.

Here's a link...
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1017

However, it's not an upgrade file, it just describes the RC68 remote. Here's what it says...

Code:
The help file below was originally submitted by "wires10"
on 1/30/2002.  After being frustrated with a CC12 device
that wasn't responding, I borrowed an RC68 and found that
the codes for Xantech Code Groups 50, C0 and D0 were
incorrect.  After reviewing messages on the forum, I find
that others have found this error as well.

I hope this posting will save others the time of going
down the wrong path.

Xantech RC68

The RC68 is a 32 button remote that generates IR
codes necessary for the set up and use of Xantech
IR controlled products. The RC68 is not used to
operate the equipment but the codes are learned
into more "user friendly" devices.

The RC68 uses multiple "overlays" to define what
each button does for each different type of device.
Documentation can be found in the "Products"
section of Xantech's excellent website by looking
at the instruction manual for the device you wish
to set up.

There is a RC68+ that adds another column and
three rows of buttons for a total of 55 buttons.

Protocol NEC1

Xantech "Code Groups" = NEC1 Device codes
-----------------------------------------
Xantech   NEC1      Xantech   NEC1
00        0         78        30
01        64        88        17

70        14        F8        31

OBC's for buttons in Row Column order
as they appear on the face of the remote
----------------------------------------
   1       20      2       3
   0       5       6       7
   4       9       10      11
   8       13      14      15
   12      17      18      19
   16      25      26      27
   24      29      30      31
   28      21      22      23

The very astute observer will notice that the
last 6 rows of the buttons and the device codes
represented in grid on the back of the RC68
showing the valid code groups have identical
values. But the first two rows don't. Extra
credit given if you can discern a pattern here.

Thanks for the help.
I'll be sure to include links in the future.
I'm guessing an upgrade file can be created from this info. Time for me to 'break the barrier' and create an upgrade of my own. If I get something that works, I'll make sure to share it with everyone.

The reason the OP didn't create an upgrade specifically for the RC68 remote is because it's not possible. The RC68 is capable of sending NEC1 signals with many different device codes. Changing the Xantech "Code Group" changes the NEC1 device code. The buttons have fixed OBCs though, but their meaning is different depending on which overlay is being used. The remote that's documented here is the 32 button RC68, but the remote that's currently in production is the 55 button RC68+.

So, what we would like to see are individual upgrades for the devices that the RC68 can be used to control. Which version of the remote do you have? And do you have any Xantech devices that it controls?

I did it! I did it! Still a newbie, but heres a link
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=4229
to the upgrade I created for the Xantech RS41AV with the help of Robman. This was not as dificult as I had feared, I encourage anyone else out there with Xantech components to do the same. I think a huge step forward for the forum would be the NEC 1 device code that corresponds to Xantech code group FF (this will enable a change of code group assigned to a specific component, allowing independent control of more than 1 identical components)
