Seems UEIC isn't selling any remotes in the stores around me.
Most of the remotes are RCA or Zenith remotes. Is UEIC going out of business?
I've seen a few kameleon remotes at Radio Shack and Walmart (discontinued). That's it. |

I can absolutely tell you that UEI isn't going out of business, besides, UEI is a "behind the scenes" company, RS and OFA are their customers. They have no control over what remotes OFA and RS decide to put on the market.
I agree that the RS/UEI offerings have been few and far between of late, which is a pity because RS used to make UEI produce some of their best remotes (like the classic 15-1994 and the popular 15-2116).
There are still several OFA models available on both sides of the pond, and once we start supporting the JP1.2 remotes, the choice will be even greater. _________________ Rob

What is the status of JP1.2 support? It doesn't look like I am able to find a JP1 without having to go mail-order. |

We're well on the way to offering some support for JP1.2 remotes. Initially though, until we can arrange to have IR.exe updated, the support will probably be a bit kludgy.

Of course, one of the "mail order" options is to buy your remotes from me, and by doing so you would be helping to support this web site. _________________ Rob

Thanks for the link! I tried to do a search for JP1.2 and received over 3000 matches. Narowing down the serch didn't help all that much.

Good point. If I can get approval from the boss, I will put in an order. Other than the obvious asthetics, are there any difference between the URC-6131 and 6131n? Any good reasons not to spend the $2 extra to get the URC-8910? |

From a software POV, the 6131 and 6131N are identical, so the only differences are in the physical remote itself.
The URC-8910 is actually $5 cheaper than the 6131 and 6131N, and it's a learning remote so it's actually more useful than the 6131. _________________ Rob

This is disappointing (lack of JP1 remotes). I need to replace two of my aging/failing 15-1994s. What are my choices for current JP1 capable remotes? Does RS sell anything that is JP1 capable anymore?
I did see the link to remotes that Rob is selling. I must say I'm not a big fan of the all silver URCs. Is anything available in black, similar to the 1994? |

Nope. Al the current OFAs are silver in colour and the brain trust at RS decided to discontinue both the 15-1994/5 and the 15-2116/7 _________________ Rob

Thanks Rob. OK so if I have to submit to a silver remote, of the available URCs, which is the preferred remote for JP1. |

I saw some RS 2116s in a RadioShack store in Michigan in January (stupidly didn't buy any) and I bought a couple in a store in Florida in February. I have no idea if any can be found still, but they are very close to the 1994. |

The URC-8910 and URC-8811 are both pretty much the standard JP1 remotes now. _________________ Rob

I just noticed that the URC8811 on clearance at The Source by Circuit City in Canada for $24.99. Most stores seem to be sold out, but a few have some left.
EDIT: The price seems to have now been lowered to $19.99.

Just check the banner ads on this site, or check on ebay. So far, my favorite JP1/1.2 remote is the URC8910 (or 9910 for those who want RF).
It controls everything in my home theater system without a hitch. (Well, after making a couple upgrades.) |
