Hi Rob!

Post by rmeden »

Hi Rob... it's been years!!!

I just bought a new Insigna DVD/VCR combo so broke out the JP1 cable to see what I can do with it... unfortunately, I'm pretty sure my JP1 cable isn't working and to make matters worse, it reset my Cinema 7!!!! (only working one)!!

Tomorrow I'll probably build a new cable, to get the C7 back up fast, but I may just order a USB cable.

If I'm gonna place an order, I might as well get a new remote. I know you don't have the C7 any more... (I'm down to 1... can't find the other 2!) but what do you recommend? I really like the layout and feel of the C7, but oh well....

Robert

p.s... what's this "just getting started" stuff!!! I have a JP1 cable older than (most of my) kids! :)

Mr. Eden, wassup!

If you like the feel of the C7, you probably want to get a smaller remote, like the URC-6131, URC-6011 or URC-8011. However, none of those models have learning. If you still have at least one C7 around, then that's OK as you can use that to capture new devices, but if you need a new learning remote, the one to go for is the URC-8910, but it's alot bigger than your C7, it's a similar size to the old 15-1994.

do those remotes do Macros?

BTW.. do you know if folks make a video switch that detects an image on the rca plug and connects to that port automatically?

All the switches I've seen have a remote or local buttons. I guess I can throw that in a macro, but I was really wanting to keep things simple.

Yes, they all do macros. The URC-6131 will play macros that have been programmed using JP1, but it won't let you program macros just using the remote.

As for video selectors, many of them have an option to auto-select the active input. I use a Sima SVS4 and this unit has that feature, even though it also comes with a remote that you can use the select the desired input.

There are occassions when this feature won't work, however, as some devices don't really kill the video output, they just send a black screen instead (this is the case with my ReplayTv units, for example).

Good news.. I found a loose connection in the DB25 hood and now my JP1 and C7 are back up again!!

Looking through the archives, my design isn't in there... it's between the Original and PCB design... IC on proto board. :) )

I could still use a backup remote, but for now I'm in business.

I'll start work on the Insigna remote today, learning the buttons, etc.

I'm starting to remember how fun JP1 can be.... but everything's been set up for years and nothing to do!

Robert

hey Rob.. can you fix the "just gettting started" tag? It's embarrassing. :)
