UEI Generic Blaster IC

I have found the subject device from UEI OEM Products web pages.

I have following questions;

1. Since when such device is employed in JP1 remotes?
2. What remotes use such device?
3. If the device include flash ROM, may we still use the existing JP1.x tools?
