Radio Shack 15-2116 and Snapstream Firefly Mini

I got a Radio Shack 15-2116 hoping it could control my Logitech receiver, infocus projector, and firefly mini remote for the computer. None of those manufacturers are listed, so I tried to get it to "learn" all the buttons. It quickly ran out of memory. Even if I could get a "code" for the firefly, it would free up a lot of learning. Is there a way I can get that? Also, I don't like that it can't "learn" the power button for the various devices. Can I fix that somehow? I'm completely new to JP1. I'm wondering if there's hope, or if I should look for a different universal remote.

Get yourself a JP1 cable and unleash the power of that remote!

Read JP1 - Just How Easy Is It? to find out how easy it is to create your own setup codes and load them into your remote.

If you are looking for codes for specific devices, you need to ask in the Code Search forum, using the mandatory Code Search Template.

IF the 15-2116 is able to learn the buttons from all of the remotes in question, then yes, JP1 will totally solve all of your remote problems.

Once you've got yourself a cable, come back and we'll walk you through it.

Ok, I fabbed a cable from some stuff I have laying around. I tried to use the parallel port "simple" build. I didn't have a six-pin connector but I made due with a pair of 4-pin connectors. I assume that "line 1" goes to pin 1, etc, right? I did that but I am getting an "unable to initiate any drivers for jp1 interface" message. anything I can do to fix?

Edit: I copied the gwiopm.sys file to the windows folder and that seemed to make it happy. But now I'm getting no response from the interface.

Ok, I wired the interface wrong. I got it now. This JP1 stuff does make the remote a lot more powerful!

The next step is to learn as many buttons from the Firefly remote as you can and then download the memory using the JP1 cable, this should let you know what the signals look like. If the protocol is recognized, you should be able to build an upgrade from there. If it isn't, post a copy of your IR file and we'll take a look at it.

It's my understanding the Firefly Mini is RF, not IR, so isn't compatible with learning remotes. If you have a wireless keyboard, you might try learning the keyboard commands into your remote.

That's incorrect, Firefly mini is IR. Regular Firefly is RF.

OK, I've gotten around to learning a bunch of the keys and downloaded them. You offered above that if I "post a copy of (my) IR file and (you'll) take a look at it".

I downloaded more than once because the memory would fill up. I've inserted the info and created a file in KM, so would that file be of value, rather than the IR files?

Again, pardon the newbe questions, but help me decide which file(s) to post and where/how to post. I've wandered through numerous sections of this site and don't see (yes, maybe I'm blind) any instructions to this.

Eventually, I'll teach myself how to build my own upgrade.

ZIP the whole thing and upload it to the Diagnosis Area and the make sure you post back here the link to the file so people don't have to go look for it (they won't).

However, if you are still talking abou the Firefly mini, doesn't this work for you?

Great, thanks for the link! I did a search but for some reason, didn't find it.

Took me a while, since I'm a newbe, but it appears I finally figured out (after installing the latest java, RM & IR) how to actually get that file processed and uploaded to my remote.

Looks like it may work, but time and use will tell.
