Hi there,
I am in the UK and have been programming JP1 remotes for a couple of years now. The OFA remotes I use are all from the US (URC8810/8811 & URC6131) which I have either bought while over there on business or ones that Rob has kindly sent to me. Since getting them programmed the way I want them I havn't kept up to date with the JP1 scene and I'm sorry to admit that I havn't visited these forums for quite some time.
Anyway, I think it's time to replace a couple of my remotes, and since I'm visiting the US again next week I thought I'd take the opertunity to buy some while over there. What I'd like to know is what are the current models that can be programmed because I understand that many of the newer ones have a different system now. The places I will be able to visit easily are Wall-Mart, Best Buy, CompUSA etc.
If anyone has any advice I would be extremely gratefull.
Russell

UEI has changed platforms from the Samsung S3C8 chip that's used in all the JP1 remotes that you have to a new Motorola flash chip called HCS08. These new remotes are known as "JP1.2" and these are the models that you are most likely to find in the stores over here, the S3C8 models have largely been phased out, though there are a few models that are still active for now.
You can't program the new JP1.2 remotes with your old JP1 cable, you would need to get a new serial JP1.2 cable.
Therefore, unless there's a particular reason that you want to get one of the newer models, I'd recommend getting more of the models that you have (ie, URC-8811, URC-8910, etc).

I have both types here, so if you can't find them in the stores let me know.
