help with KM

Post by Lachlan »

This is my first time using KM. I'm trying to get the Logitech z-680 device upgrade for my RS 15-2116. I load the txt file and choose the 15-2116 remote, but the problem is cell F11/12 stays on the 15-1994 remote and doesn't change when I select the different remote. I don't know if this is a consequence, but then when I go to the buttons tab, there are no functions to plug in. Any help would be great.

Please provide a link to the file in question. From your post, one would not even know which section to look for it in.

Indeed, please post links in future. Anyway, I did a search and found the file in the Audio folder...

I had no problem loading this file into KM, which leads me to believe that your installation of KM might be corrupt, in which case you should re-install it. Another possibility is that your security it too high and KM's macros were not allowed to run.

I re-downloaded km and the logitech z-680 upgrade and I'm still getting the same results. Is this a bug with v9.06? Can I find an earlier version?

If you can't get KM working, you could give RM a try.

I put it on a different drive and resaved the entire KM spreadsheet after having selected the correct remote and before loading any upgrades. That seems to have worked. Now I load that over in IR. If you tried the logitech upgrade, you know the default setup code is 0680. After loading it into IR, it shows up in the devices tab as "MISC:0680" so in the general tab I put 0680 into the Audio device button and upload to the remote. disconnect the remote, try it, no dice. I reconnect the remote and download, and the Audio button has been changed to 1023, not 0680. Am I doing this wrong?

Tried using RM, same problem. I upload 0680, the remote gives me back 1023. If I try to manually load 0680 into the remote, it says not found.

Edit: Fixed. The Audio device button was on "RCVR" but had to be on "MISC" to match the upgrade.

Bottom line, what you set in the General tab needs to match EXACTLY what you see in the Devices tab.

Let's make sure you're using KM properly (I'll assume you read the readme contained in the zip file). This is what you should have done:

Open Excel.

Open KM. Depending on your security settings, you may have seen Excel's security warning about macros. If you did, there's Disable Macros and Enable Macros buttons. You must select Enable Macros. If you did'nt get the prompt, then you security settings need to be changed. Go to Tools, Options, Security, Macro Security, and select Medium.

Click KM's LOAD button and navigate the dialog to locate the file you want to open (if the button does nothing, then you're running KM without macro support and need to adjust the security settings mentioned above).

The file in question here was made for the 15-2104 remote. Your reference to KM showing the 15-1994 leads me to believe you didn't properly open the file.

Once the file is open, select the "15-2117 / 15-2116" from the Remote dropdown.

Go to the Buttons sheet and make sure the functions are assigned to your liking.

Go back to the Setup sheet and click the Copy button in the Device Upgrade box. You should be prompted by KM asking if you want to go to IR... click Yes.

Are these the steps you performed?

I realize you've found a solution by using RM, but I'd be interested in more detail regarding this. When you say "the functions won't come up" do you mean that the in-cell drop-downs are empty?

Are there functions defined on the Functions sheet?

Mark, Lachlan still has not provided a link to the file in question, but if it is the same one that Rob indicated above, then it is working fine for me also.

Ok, here's what I do.
I download km 9.02 from the beginner's thread.
I unzip it.
I open it.
I enable macros.
I switch the remote from the default 15-1994 to 15-2117/15-2116 in cell c-2. Cell F-11/12 still says 15-1994.
I d/l the logitech Z-680 device upgrade from here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... ile_id=450
This switches cell c-2 back to 15-1994, so I switch it again to 15-2117/15-2116. Once again, cell F-11/12 remains the same 15-1994.
I click on the functions tab. All the functions are listed with their 3-digit EFC.
I click on the buttons tab and there are no functions in the functions column (F) nor any functions in the drop-down box for the buttons.

I close it all down without saving and start again

I open KM.
I enable macros.
I Load the z-680 upgrade.
This time, it changes cell c-2 and cell F-11/12 to 15-2104 on its own.
I change cell c-2 to 15-2117/15-2116, and F-11/12 changes too.
I click on the functions tab. This time it has loaded 3-digit EFCs, 5-digit EFCs, OBCs, and hex.
I click on the buttons tab. This time, the functions column is populated and there are functions available in the drop-down boxes for each button.

I don't know what was different between the first and second time trying it.
