I grabbed one of the 15-2133 Kameleon from RS for $20 last week. With the help of IR620 (using Wine), RM 1.64 and IRToWav (SUN jre 1.5update8) on Linux, I am able to control my whole HT stack (Pioneer 503CMX, HK AVR65, Motorola 6214, Sony HDR-HC1). The only thing left is my MythTV computer, which is currently controlled by a Websurfer keyboard.

Kameleon refused to learn the keys from the keyboard while happily learning from other remotes. I downloaded websurfer.zip from file section. After loading 6x6_4x7_websurfer proto km test 191.txt (or 6x6_4x7_websurfer proto km test 192.txt_. ) RM crashes on Output tab.

I'm not sure on how to use ir_websurfer.ir. I can load it into IR, but I don't believe IR can translate from URC-881x into the Kameleon. That's supposed to be RM (or KM)'s job. Am I right?

Even if RM worked on the KM files, how do I merge 191 and 192 to get a more complete map? I would like to at least get the arrow keys, return and esc working on the remote. Do I map key up or key down to the arrow keys on the remote? Or do I map them to phantom keys and define a macro, say, left down and left up to the left arrow on the remote?

TIA.

RM v1.65 should be able to import the WebSurfer KM files.

Greg. Thanks! It works perfectly on the Websurfer files.

I imported websurfer proto km test 192.txt and made a WAV file to upgrade my Kameleon. I got num 4 and return key to work on my HTPC. It seems that key down is enough for Mythtv.

However, I'm still a bit unclear as how to combine these two files.

websurfer proto km test 192.txt has 4, 9, esc, return, tab and F2
websurfer proto km test 191.txt has 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and many other functions. Looks like these two files use two different protocols and two different devices. Does that mean that I can't use them on a single device key?

R.

I did more RTFM. It seems that Device Combiner is what I wanted. However, I'm bit puzzled about the Device Combiner Panel. After I select Device Combiner as the protocol, I don't see another tab called Device Combiner panel. If Device Combiner panel referes to the area on the setup panel, I don't see an import or add button?

In RM, there is indeed (supposed to be) a separate Device Combiner Tab when that protocol is selected. It appears to be missing in 1.65. Greg will have to look at this.

RM v1.66 should take care of this.

Greg. Thanks again. Yes I do get device combiner panel now.

However, I still can't combine protocol 191 and 192 as the combiner requires 1 byte protocol while WebSurfer uses 5 bytes (I need to understand it some more.)

So, I remapped F10 to Esc, F9 to 9, F8 to 4 in X11 via xmodmap. So, everything works for me now.

I was supposed to get an email notification whenever a new follow up was posted. However, I have only received one. That's why I haven't checked back eariler. Thanks everybody again.
