This seems to work! However, the device and the remote can fall out of synch very easily, it would seem -- any double key press will do it; for example: one due to issuing two commands in quick succession where you have to repeat the second because the device was still busy with the first.

If "too quick succession" is a problem, then I need to introduce you to yet ANOTHER Special Protocol, called "Pause". It allows you to insert a (guess this one now....) PAUSE in between any two steps in a sequence (macro, DSM or LKP).

It is a selectable protocol in RM, where the protocol help tells you how to use it and create a keymove that is itslef a "pause".

DIGRESSION: I notice you're using Device Combiner for a Sony receiver. That is a pretty large protocol upgrade. Are you sure you can't manage this upgrade using one of the Sony Combo protocols? You will usually save some memory if you do. If you upload your RM filie for that upgrade, someone might have a recommendation or three. (unless you are using DC because you need the duration control it offers you)

Superb! It works really well. However, everything depends on not issuing two identical commands in a row. Simple things like turning the player off and on mess it up unless I insert another command in between. Then I have to resynch manually. (Strangely, there seem to be exceptions, such as the pause key. Two presses puts the image in "freeze" mode, but I can still carry on and issue other commands after that without resynching.)

It's a bit silly that we had to troubleshoot the troubleshooting, but I guess that's how it goes sometime.

If there's anything else anyone would like me try in case there are additional queries, just let me know. In the meantime, I'll continue testing this out to see if it's all hunky-dory.

I'm already using it! I needed quite a long pause between turning on my TV and selecting the video input. In the case of my DVD player, I was thinking more about those occasions when one might forget to let the player finish its business (reading a disc, whatever), thereby requiring the same command again.

I don't know. Should we start another thread on this issue? The reason why I used the device combiner was that the HT-DDW900 remote invokes no fewer than 8 (if I remember) distinct device numbers (a mix of Sony 12, 15 and 20). Obviously, with my 8811 I wouldn't need all of those and some are probably redundant, so you might be right about the Sony combo option. What do you suggest? My RM file is here, if you'd like to look at it. I'd continue to be grateful for help and advice. I'm really curious to learn more. If you do look at it, please bear in mind that I threw it together as a test, more than anything, and I know there's a lot of redundant information in there at the moment.

I don't know whether you really need the Koss and Denon devices incorporated into that same upgrade, but as far as the Sony devices go, the Sony Combo (12/15/20) protocol allows you to combine ANY number of different Sony12 and Sony15 devices with up to FOUR Sony20 devices in a single upgrade that is MUCH smaller than your Device Combiner upgrade. It looks like you have a single Sony20 device and 5 or 6 of the others, so this protocol should work.

Make sure you read the instructions for the protocol help carefully, however, so that you enter the correct Device data in the correct fields (it's different for the Sony 12/15 devices than for the Sony 20 devices)
