It took me a moment to follow what he's talking about here, but for those that haven't figured it out, he's referring to using the RF extender. In other words, when you have the RF base unit set up so that it can control your devices, you don't need to actually point the remote at your system to use it, you can actually hold it upright (pointing at the ceiling) while you press the buttons.

What is the difference between the 8910B01 and B02? I assume they are both arrow key.

I'm interested in one of the following remotes: URC-6011, URC-8011, URC-8910, URC-8811

I already have a URC-6011 that I bought from you a few years ago, and I absolutely love it---except for one thing. It has the words "Play", "Stop", "Pause", etc., instead of the symbols, which I find very irritating. Do any of the four listed above have symbols instead of text? Also, besides button layout, 6- versus 8-device limit, and the LCD screen, are there any differences in capability between these remotes? Finally, are the 8811 and 8910 physically larger than the 6011?

Thank you.

Using words rather than symbols was a design mistake that they made with the early versions of all of those models. They quickly fixed it when they released updated versions of the 8811 and 8910 remotes, but they never did make an updated version of either the 6011 or 8011, so those still have the words printed on the transport buttons.

The 8811 and 8910 remotes are significantly bigger than the 6011 and 8011.

Yes, both models are learning remotes, whereas the 6011 and 8011 are not.

Which Payment, please?

Post by joedaring »

Hi Rob...

I'm about to order a 9960 (I think I've decided about it! :-) along with a simple JP1 Cable, and need an explanation about payments... sorry for being thick at times ;-)

In the first post I read:

> bank (at) hifi-remote (dot) com is my standard Paypal account (no credit cards)
> credit (at) hifi-remote (dot) com is my credit card enabled Paypal account (no bank transfers).

I'll pay via my PayPal account, and this account is linked to my Credit Card... am I right in sending my order to the first (I.E. Bank) account and not adding the surcharge for CC?

Again, sorry but it's not clear to me...

Thanks Rob

Please help me understand how I could have made this clearer, so that it's less likely to cause confusion for someone else.

As I explained in detail in the first post, with Paypal there are two ways to fund a transaction (unless you have paypal funds to cover it), you can either fund it using a credit card or a bank account. I have two paypal accounts, one that accepts transactions funded by a credit card (called credit (at) hifi-remote.com) and another that accepts transactions funded by bank accounts (called bank (at) hifi-remote.com).

So, your question is whether it's correct for you to send a credit card funded transaction to my "bank" account. The answer is no, you should send your credit card funded transaction to my "credit" account (and include the surcharge). You should only send bank account funded transactions to my "bank" account.

If that's still not quite clear, there's also a link to this document in the first post that walks you through how to send a payment using paypal, step by step.

OK Rob...
This is why I told you I'm a bit thick at times! ;-)

I somehow thought you were referring to a normal credit card payment and not one going through Paypal... to my discharge, can I tell you this is the first time I am proposed a different PayPal payment route if using the CC? I'm not a PayPal die-hard, but I've used it every now and again...

BTW The Explanation document linked from the first post is absolutely CLEAR (...as it is your reply to my question too...)... but I somehow managed to overlook it because I thought it was a link to a generic PayPal payment help document... I assume I am...assuming too much! :-)

Are my apologies accepted?

Thanks for help, Rob

Yeah, I know. Here's the background, in case you're interested. Paypal lets you have two types of account. The first is a regular "personal" account (which is probably what you have), with an account like this you can receive bank account money but you cannot receive credit card money. These accounts are also free. The other type is a "business" account. With business accounts you can receive any type of money, including credit card money, but they charge you a transaction fee for all transactions where you receive money.

Most sellers just opt for having one "business" account and they pass on the Paypal fees to their buyers in the form of higher S/H charges.

It would certainly be simpler if I were to use just one account, but to do so would mean that I would have to make everyone pay the CC surcharge. I decided that it was worth making the process just a little bit more complicated in order to save the majority of people some money (as most people can pay using their bank account). Therefore, the only people that have to pay an additional amount to cover the paypal fees are the people who haven't bothered to link up a bank account to their paypal accounts.

Broken 8811

Post by snuffy2 »

I just bought 2 8811s from you (they just arrived on Friday). Anyway, one is a Green backlight and the other is a Red backlight.

The Green works fine, but for the life of me I can't get the Red one to take any JP1 commands.

My setup (cable, PC, etc) works fine on 2 2116s and the Green 8811, but I get errors saying the remote isn't responding when I try to send the same file that worked fine in the Green one to the Red one.

Can I return the Red one and can you send me another working 8811?

Can you please email me: snuffy2 {at} gmail {dot} com

Thanx

Tried the batteries that worked in the Green one in the Red one and that was a no go.

Tried new & not so new batteries.

Also tried removing the betteries & reseating them (multiple times).

Haven't attempted a "backwards" battery. I'll try it, but it not holding out much hope.
