starting to get the hang of it

Post by bat078 »

after learning the basics of uising the jp1 cable on my urc 8910 and playing with the LKP/DKP/DSM Combo Special Protocol for 8910/9910/HTPro without extender and learning all my codes and finding out what discretes I can and playing with remote master and IR.exe I am ready to try an extender.

I found out I had run out of room with all my macros and key moves and such.

I have loaded the extender for my remote with my old data after removing the old special protocals and boom more memory to play with and faster respose from my macros.

I will now try some fanycy stuff to make my remote more easy to use and enjoy my investment.

thanks to all those who helped me as you can tell by my early posts I was
having teething problems getting started.

you guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!

In terms of fancy, I'd start with LKP - long key press. Instead of shift-key and function key, a short press of the key does one thing and a long press (usr-definable duration) does another. On the 8910, for instance, I find the up arrow too close to the power button for comfort and so a short (or accidental) press of my power button acts the same as an up arrow whilst a long press lets it know I mean business and everything powers off.

Next up would be DKP - double key press.

Then I'd probably suggest custom mode names to alter the display to reflect the actual device being controlled.

I'd leave toadtogs until I'd really got the hang of things.

Unless you really need them, in which case, it may be preferable to master ToadTog FIRST!
