I downloaded and have been using the Sony DHG-HDD250/500 text file for KM to update my Atlas PVR 5 remote.
Everything works fine but the Volume controls. Volume Punch Through is not working. The .txt file had Volume Up set to 'Advance' and Volume Down set to 'Replay'.
I tried it like this, but when I used IR to program the remote I have VPT Status set to On and Yes for the device (i.e. Aux uses VPT | Yes)
But when I hit the volume button I get different results (actually I get like Page Up / Page Down when it's programmed to 'Advance' and 'Replay')
I took out 'Advance' and 'Replay' from the Vol Up/Down settings and left it blank, the it tries to enter the number 1 for up and another number for down. I tried putting int Vol+/- and it did something else.
I also moved it to another Device (i.e. moved from Aux to Cable which I new VPT was working on) and it had the exact same symptoms. I also tried it on my URC9960 with the same results. This is a straight upgrade w/o any key moves.
Any thoughts? Bad KM input text file?
I'm using KM 8.38 and IR 6.15 if it makes a difference. I had setup other devices with earlier versions of KM.
Thanks,
TAZ

If you want the volume buttons to control the volume, you need to assign those functions to the proper buttons, regardless of the use of VPT.TAZ wrote:Everything works fine but the Volume controls. If you use an upgrade that has a different device type than the default for the device button you assign it to, VPT gets broken for that device mode (the upgrade you referenced uses the Cable device type and you've assigned it to Aux). The only way to fix it is with key moves.I tried it like this, but when I used IR to program the remote I have VPT Status set to On and Yes for the device (i.e. Aux uses VPT | Yes)

The VOL+ and VOL- buttons are part of a button group, where MUTE is also in the group, so if you still have the MUTE button assigned in the upgrade, KM will put hexcode zeroes onto the other volume buttons. So, first things first, if you don't want any of the volume buttons programmed as part of the upgrade, make sure they are ALL blank.
But that doesn't explain why your VPT isn't working, as it should override these buttons. My best guess is that you broke VPT by using the wrong device type for the device button that you are using. For example, if you assign a SAT code to the VCR button, it will break VPT.

This make sense, and I did think of that, but when I went back to take a look at my other equipment (TV, VCR, other DVR) I had them blanked out. Only my receiver had it set.Mark Pierson wrote:If you want the volume buttons to control the volume, you need to assign those functions to the proper buttons, regardless of the use of VPT.TAZ wrote:Everything works fine but the Volume controls. This makes sense. I see that that it does indeed have Mute assigned to 'dot'. I'll change this and give it a try.The Robman wrote:The VOL+ and VOL- buttons are part of a button group, where MUTE is also in the group, so if you still have the MUTE button assigned in the upgrade, KM will put hexcode zeroes onto the other volume buttons. Rather than continuiung speculation and educated guesses, why don't you just load up your IR file to the diagnostic area and post a link to it here?

Sorry, wasn't aware of the Diagnostic Area. I dug around a bit and found it with the files. I've posted three of the .ir files in the following zip file http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2937 with an index.txt file explaining what each of the files are.
Basically, the files are 1.) With the original Volume settings and DHG-HDD500 set to Aux contol 2.) DHG-HDD500 set to Cable control and my other cable STB set to Aux control which VPT worked on for othe cable STB 3.) My most recent update with Vol+/- and Mute Not Mapped. I have not tried this one yet as I left my laptop at work.

I would STRONGLY recommend that you use the "notes" capabilities of IR to describe in detail the symptoms you are experiencing and want looked at. Additionally, a description of what all of the various upgrades are would have been helpful. Forcing the guy(s) trying to help to search back and forth between posts, and having no "notes" in your IR file makes it really hard to follow what symptoms match with what circumstance.
Amongst the "confusing factors":
(1) You have assigned on the General sheet CBL 1877 when it's likely you intended to assign CBL 1677;
(2) You have an entire upgrade (VCR/DVD 1525) not assigned to anything, but used for a couple Keymoves. Using an upgrade only for a few Keymoves is not unusual, but normally, it would havae no function assignments in the upgrade;
(3) You have a second upgrade not assigned to anything. What's TV 2047 there for?;
Anyways, in the first IR file, VPT doesn't work because the Device Type for CBL 1250 does not match the Device Type of the AUX button. The simple workaround would be to make three Keymoves to move the AUD device's Vol+, Vol- and Mute functions to the AUX device's Vol+, Vol-, and Mute buttons, respectively.
I have no explanation for why for the CBL device VPT should not be working in your second file, but I'm not sure it doesn't, as I'm pretty confused right now.
In the third file, VPT will not work on your CBL 1250 device for the same reason it doesn't work in the first. a CBL device assigned to the AUX key breaks VPT for that device.
In ANY of the cases, the presence or absence of functions assigned to the Vol+, Vol-, and Mute keys is immaterial to whether or not VPT works. When VPT works, it will "punch through" whatever you have assigned to those three buttons for the selected VPT device - in your case AUD - so the functions being "overriden", if you will, are immaterial.
I would first try file number 1 with Keymoved volume functions (as described above) in the AUX device.
Next, I would try to clean up (see my observations above) and test the second IR file, because as far as I can tell, VPT SHOULD work there, but there may be other complicating factors at work.
Good luck.

Had Notes on all my upgrades but I had my HDD fried on my work laptop a couple months ago, all my JP1 files where in my temp directory which was the one directory that didn't get backed up. The result was I had to pull the codes from my remote and save them in IR (hence no notes prior to adding the DHG-HDD500) sorry.
Nope - the 1677 was my version of the SA8300HD DVR settings, the 1877 was what Time Warner Cable had programmed. I did one modification to try to get the 30sec skip, since it didn't work I set it back to TWC's setting. Notes would have helpAmongst the "confusing factors":

Yes, that was my DVD player that I took out of my system. I'll run through some trials tonight. I'm not convienced that my 'Aux' button on this remote is tied to specific devices since I was able to get the VPT to work with the AUX button when programming my other cable box to it. Well Number one method worked. Had to do use a 'Key Name' when doing the Key Move instead of an EFC or Hex Code because it wouldn't accept the 5 digit EFC or two Byte hex commands that my receiver uses. But it works which is the most critical thing.
I have no idea why moving the Cable for my other STB to the Aux button still allowed it to work, maybe TWC had something special done when they created that device code, but I did verify that it does indeed work when programmed to the Aux button. Very weird.
Thanks for the help.

PS: I added some notes back in to the .ir file
