Codes for LG digital receier
Device: LG LST 3510 A
Type of device: Digital HD receiver with DVD
Year: 2005
JP1 Remote model: Radioshack 15-2116
JP1 user? Not yet
Still have original remote? Yes
Checked the file section? Yes
Checked the Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
Partially working setup code? On switch for Zenith DVD turns on the LG, but not off.
Learning remote question?
My remote has 'learned' several codes for my Zenith DVD, DirecTV satellite, and Phillips HDTV(which only has a nonHD receiver). But it doesn't seem to know or have a button for a digital receiver. I am wondering if, even getting info via JP1, would work on my remote.
The remote for the LG, in turn, can't seem to handle any button for DirectTV satellite, so I am stuck using 2 remotes.

Your 15-2116 is a learning remote, so you should be able to learn the buttons from any of your original remotes and use that info to create upgrades for these devices.

Re: Codes for LG digital receier
It sounds like you are not referring to "learned" codes, but to built-in setup codes (codes from the manual that you assigned to various device keys). Is that correct?jayres wrote: Learning remote question?

"Learning" as far as universal remotes go means actually transmitting a code from your LG remote INTO the 2116 (after properly setting it up to receive) whereby it really "learns" that particular function. (see page 11 of the manual - if you don't have one at home)
Using this technique, you are likely to find that you can indeed "learn" the LG functions - but probably not all that you need - so I would recommend building or getting a JP1 cable, since with it, you will then be able to decode these learned signals, and create a device upgrade tha uses MUCH LESS MEMORY than the learned signal do, that you can then upload to your remote and use it just like one of the setup codes in the built-in library that you are using for your other devices.

Re: Codes for LG digital receier
Could you tell us the setup code number please? The code that you have found that turns a device on but not off is called a "discrete" and many people find such codes useful when programming macros to turn their various devices off and on. It could also point us in the right direction regarding protocol and device number.jayres wrote:Partially working setup code? On switch for Zenith DVD turns on the LG, but not off.
setup code for zenith dvd turns on lg digital receiver
the setup code for the zenith dvd is 0591 on my radioschack remote.
I tried learning some functions for the digital receiver on my remote using the CD button component, as I don't use that button for any of my equipment. The learning said 'success' but it didn't work.
I don't know what the setup code is for the LG digital receiver and I don't know where to find out. I also don't know what componet button to use on the remote for it.

I just ordered one. I've been reading the forums and I think I know what I'll need to to when I get it, as long as the digital LG has a code out there I can use. Thanks for your quick responses.
I'll let you know if I have any problems.
I went to Radio Shack and they didn't know what a JP1 was even though it was for their very own remote.

JP1 is a "home made" process that is the result of us reverse engineering how UEI remotes work. Radio Shack didn't even know that the 15-1994 remote supports macros or keymoves, so they certainly won't know about JP1.jayres wrote:I went to Radio Shack and they didn't know what a JP1 was even though it was for their very own remote.

I got the JP1 cable and upgraded my remote and it works(!) pretty much except for the volume controls, the channel +, and only some of the channel numbers work, like 6, 7, 8, and 9 work but 2, 4, and 11 don't (the lower numbers?) Is this a common problem? I also don't know if I should have swapped the EDC/OBC (not sure what that means). I didn't swap it, but should I have? Thanks for all your help! My setup code is DVD 2000. I'm using the CD button on my remote as I have another DVD that is using the DVD button.

Well, now that you have a cable, you can learn the buttons from the OEM remote that don't seem to work right, download FROM your 2116, and examine the decodes on the "learned signals" Tab in IR. From that info you can modify/supplement/correct your upgrade and make it exactly the way you want it.
If you're still having problems, post the learned signal IR file (and a link) as well as the upgrade you're attempting to use and someone can have a look.

I"ve put my IR file in the diagnosis area. I can't figure out what to change in the file to make those few buttons work. Here's a link (I hope)
The name of the file is 15_2116_for_lg.ir. The upgrade file I used is
LG_LST-3510a_DVD_HDTV.TXT.
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... _for_lg.ir
If that link doesn't work, I will try again. Tried to follow the instructions for the linking.

All of those learns (except for "Down") appear to be pretty bad as they do not decode coherently, although the "Down" button decodes to NEC:247, OBC 001, which matches the Protocol/device info from the device upgrade referenced above, BUT is a DIFFERENT OBC (001 vs. 005)
. Is that the "down" button or the "Page Down" button (which is OBC 001) you learned?
Do all of the learned buttons work as well as the corresponding OEM buttons?
May I suggest you ensure the following and relearn the buttons in question:
(1) Brand new GOOD (check their voltage) batteries in both remotes;
(2) Ensure you use proper learning technique, to wit:
(2a) place both remotes facing each other on a level, fixed surface, about 2-4 inches apart;
(2b) ensure the 2116 is ready to learn (you know, "setup", scroll down to "IR Learn", press the device button and then the target button)
(2c) about 0.5 seconds AFTER pressing and releasing the "target" button on the 2116, press and HOLD the button "to be learned" on the OEM remote,
(2d) hold that button until the 2116 display indicates "Success" (or not).
Presumably, if you get good learns, all of your decodes will look like the decode from "down" does, showing NEC protocol, Device 247, and different OBC/HEX/EFC for each function.
These are the data you should use in your KM upgrade. If they differ from the data in your current upgrade (the one you downloaded from this site), then you'd be well-advised to simply go ahead and learn EVERY button and build a new upgrade from scratch.
If, on the other hand, you are still not getting clean decodes, then an expert will have to look at your IR file of learned signals to see if there is a nuance of some sort in the signal that makes it ALMOST an NEC:247 signal, but not exactly.

Upon closer examination of your IR file, I notice that your DVD/2000 device upgrade uses protocol 011A, which is the NEC 2DEV combo protocol. And your transport functions are apparently for some other NEC device (your DVD player? NECx1:45.45?). Is that correct?
Although I can understand why you may have done this, I would suggest:
(1) using that protocol is somewhat inefficient, in that it makes EVERY button assignment in the device upgrade use TWO bytes rather than one, so you're using a bunch more upgrade memory (35 bytes more), whereas you could simply make 5 keymoves of 5 bytes each at a cost of 25 bytes to accomplish the same thing. Further, each of your current 5 keymoves calling on that upgrade uses 6 bytes, rather than 5, so you'd save an additional 5 bytes of keymove memory.
Bottom line:switching to the NEC1 protocol and using keymoves rather than the NEC 2DEV Combo would save you 35 bytes of upgrade memory at the cost of 20 bytes of keymove memory.
(2) until you've sorted out the LG Receiver, I'd stick to the basic NEC1 protocol (005A), single device upgrade, to eliminate any other possible contributors to the problem.
