In my RM folder, there's a "icon(?)" that looks identical to the one we use to launch IR.exe. What's this for? It doesn't appear to actually do anything.

I ask because I'm doing some experimenting, and seeing if I can merge IR and RM in the same folder, and share rdf's. I have a new IR beta from Mark I'm playing with. It adds a new feature, and thus far it's working GREAT, but I still have more testing to do with it.

Double clicking on it just has windows pop up a dialog box wanting me to select an application to open it with. I suspect that Greg planned to use it to open RM from the desktop, but that may interfere or cause a conflict if you already have IR's icon on the desktop (I don't, but someone else might).

It is the icon that is associated with RM device upgrade files (*.rmdu). The setup.jar file creates a registry file called setup.reg that associates rmdu files with the RemoteMaster.jar java program. Here is the section from my setup.reg file.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RMDeviceUpgrade\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Download\\jp1\\rm\\RemoteMaster.ico"

Right now, it is the same icon that is used for IR.

The icon only shows up if you put a shortcut to RemoteMaster.jar on your desktop and change the icon via the properties for the shortcut.

I currently have RM, KM and IR in the same folder. I setup a main IR folder that holds the 3 pieces of software and everything else that the programs use form the distribution zip files. I put the RDF's and the IR device files in the IR directory and have a folder under IR for the upgrades for RM. Since the RDF's distributed with IR and RM are currently different I use the RM RDF's for both. The easy way to do this is to copy the IR RDF's into the directory then overlay them with the RM RDF's. I don't know that the word "required" applies but it is best that both RM and IR are working off the same RDF.
