Insignia Volume Toggle

Post by myk7 »

Hi folks,
After a couple of hours of reading here. I have found some postings that I recognized as close to answering my problems. I probly just don't know enough to recognize the answer when I see it.

Here goes..
I have an Insignia DVD/Reciever HT. I use DVD 0651 and most buttons seem to work well. My main problem is that the volume button doesn't work the volume. I've "learned" from the original remote the volume signals, but they rarely work right. I've learned the volume buttons to my 8910 and noticed that each buttom puts out 2 different signals. In ir615 ("learned Signals" "Misc") the only difference is one signal is T=1 and the other is T=0. I assume it's toggling. (or not, in my case)

I read many posts close this type of problem. I just want to make sure that there is not a "simple fix" before I spend hours on something that won't work.

Thanks for any input

Mike

Yes, it is toggling. A learned signal won't toggle correctly, but a signal from the correct built-in setup code, or that generated by an upgrade you PROPERLY build using the decode from that signal ought to work properly. If the volume control signals are simply not included in the DVD:0651, you will have to build a simple upgrade using the decode data.

You should post your learned IR file, and the KM/RM upgrade you generated using that data for someone to look at. As it is, you haven't provided enough specifics.

Also, give setup code DVD:0769 a try.

You probably don't need to worry about that toggle bit at all. I can't tell enough about what you've done or what you're trying to do to give a precise answer.

If you program the vol keys via keymove or as part of an upgrade, you certainly don't need to worry about the toggle bit.

For most signals that include toggle bits, continuing to use the learned signals will have problems, so you should reprogram as keymove or upgrade and delete the learned signals. But vol keys, tend to not have even that problem.

hey guys, thanks for the input

I can't find any signals in any codes that will work the volumes. I've tried to build codes using the learned data with no luck. It appears the codes I build set the toggle to T=0 by default, I can build a code that has a T=1 or T=0 toggle, but I can get that from the original remote. I guess what I need is a code that toggles from T=0 to T=1 in the same code. Any clue on how to do that? I'll post my ir and upgrade files tomorrow if yall think it would do any good.

John, my main goal here is to get the volume buttons working right. The learned signals don't toggle, and therefore don't work right. The signals I have built don't toggle either. I may just be out of luck

again, thanks for yall's input

If I understand your posts you say you are using build in code of 0651.
That code is recs80 protocol with device 5. From my notes it is listed for Gradiente and Oritron dvd players. If this is right and you are using build in 0651. Then the upgrade you are building should be recs80(45) with device 5.

Or you could try Robs 0651 manual settings upgrade. And change the device # to match your device #.

yes whompuss, it's recs80 protocol with device 5, but I didn't know which recs80 it was.. thanks for the 45. I checked out Rob's manual settings without much luck. I played with the learning procedure (double clicking the original) and had some success. It now works momentarily, but is consistant. Usable, but not perfect.. the little things bug me to no end.. heheh. I've uploaded my ir file so yall can see what I've done.

none of the upgrades I can make do as well as the double click learned signals so I've not uploaded any of them

Have you tried creating key moves for the VOL+/VOL- functions?

On IR's Key Moves tab, add them using:

Volume Up
Device: DVD
Key: VOL+
Device Type: DVD
Setup Code: 0651
EFC: 114

Volume Down
Device: DVD
Key: VOL-
Device Type: DVD
Setup Code: 0651
EFC: 146

Remember to delete or edit the learned signals so that they don't override the key moves.

ummm.. I had tried keymoves on the remote with no luck, but not in IR. I followed your instructions and now it works better than the original :D I'm so pleased. I want to thank everybody for helping me with this. You folks are the best!

If you tried without removing the learned signals they would have overridden the keymoves.
now it works better than the original
That's the important thing. ;)

I'm happy that you now have it working, BUT ...

I completely understood that your upgrades were not working. THAT's WHY I asked you to upload them. The purpose of the request for your upgrade files was to perhaps provide you some help in MAKING them work.

But that is now moot.

Congratulations

ok.. now I totally feel like a bonehead. I had already deleted all the upgrade files I had made, so I made another one to show you Capn, just so you could show me what I had done wrong for next time. I went ahead and loaded it to my remote just to make sure it didn't work.. low and behold, it works.

I can only assume I hadn't deleted the learned signals, but sure thought I had cleared all that out. oh well.. the mystery is over.. Bonehead takes the prize :?

Thanks all.. see ya 'round

Well, you've sort of underscored my whole point. We ask, and in fact a sticky post (See "Something not Working?" linked in my sig below) is pretty clear in its advice, for you to upload and attach any files (learned IR files, KM/RM upgrades, IR files that don't seem to work "right") so that someone could analyze and try to tell you SPECIFICALLY what is wrong, rather than guessing and conjecture.

As an example, you never once specified what protocol you were using until somebody else deduced it (although some could figure it out from the partially working setup code you provided) - and fortunately, one of the guys correctly guessed what a solution would be for you. Withholding information rarely helps the troubleshooting effort.

Well, as it turns out, the upgrade wasn't the problem.. so it wouldn't have done any good to post it. Ever thought about anger management classes? Anywho.. To those that want my thanks.. thank you.. to those that don't.. adios
