Hi,
I am a relative newcomer to JP1, and am completely in love. Recently I purchased an 8910 from Robman and am in the process of porting my URC-8811 configuration to my new URC-8910. It seems to be pretty much a manual process and I started from scratch in IR.EXE by loading 8910_ex1.txt (8910 extender v1.1) into IR.EXE.
My problem is that I cannot seem to create some keymoves that I had on my 8811. The problem affects keymoves to X-Shifted keys. This is because the "X-Shift" checkbox does not appear in IR's "Key Move" dialog box. This problem does not happen if I use the 8811 extender 3.3 with the corresponding extended 8811 RDF file. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I couldn't find it searching the forums or in the readme files. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Danny
URC-8910 extender 1.1, IR 6.15, no xshifted keys in keymoves

You're using the wrong rdf file. Most rdf's that are packaged with extender zip files are not kept up-to-date. You have to download the CURRENT set of rdf files (version 1.25) from the tools->main section.
Here's a link.

Thank you, Captain!
That was exactly it. I must admit I am surprised that the extender did not come packaged with an appropriate RDF file. I'd understand if the RDF file would have been a bit out of date and missing some tweaks available in later versions. But to not even support the very extender's own feature set? I find that a bit odd. Thanks again for your lightning fast and generous help.

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't be so quick to condemn the extender writer/packager. That zip file was made 2.5 years ago (although uploaded to this new file section just last year), and IR.exe has undergone many significant evolutionary changes in the interim.dannysh wrote:That was exactly it. I don't know whether or not the rdf used with the old versions of IR had x-shift or not (the description of the extender would certainly lead one to believe this to be the case), but it wouldn't surprise me if that old rdf used with an old version of IR might not indeed have the x-shift functionality, but that as IR has evolved, the rdf's have to be updated to keep up with it.

No expert here either but I value the Volunteer effort of the experts and understand that there are 24 hours in a day, no moreCapn Trips wrote:I'm no expert, but I wouldn't be so quick to condemn the extender writer/packager. From 8910 README.txt in the zip file
RDF FILES:
==========
The enclosed RDF file "CPT0CPx1 (URC-9910_8910 Extender1).rdf" is needed in the directory where you run IR.EXE to edit an eeprom image of the extender.
The above rdf as well as some "urc-8910" rdf files are required in the
directory where you run the ExtInstall program.
In the past, as newer versions of IR.EXE have been released, they have been bundled with updated versions of rdf files for various extenders. If you use this extender with a newer version of IR, it might include updates to the rdf files that are included with this extender. Such updates would have names whose first 8 characters exactly match the first 8 characters of the rdf being replaced (other parts of the name may be different). If IR includes such updates, you should probably use them instead of the rdfs included here. If IR is older than this extender or does not include such updates, then the rdf files included hereshould be used..

With respect to valuing these terrific volunteers (and their time), I think that I, like most others, have shown respect by accomplishing all of my JP1 goals through reading previously-published material. This respect and appreciation is further communicated in my previous posts.
The generally welcoming attitude of this forum is what gave me the courage to ask a humble question in the first place. Even if I did miss a documented detail, or at least the emphasis of said detail, I'm still surprised by the pointed tone in ElizabethD's comments. On the other hand, thank you Capn Trips for the solution and further insight.

As far as Liz's "pointed tone" - I can't say I really read that into it - she was just pointing out that the details are usually somewhere out there, for the poor unsuspecting user to find if (s)he can.
I'm routinely much more quick to be patronizing than she
