I've been using my RS 15-2116 for a while now without too many problems, but am finally getting ready to take on the project of moving my AV equipent into the wiring closet of my house where it belongs.
I have a 15-2117 and three "command centers" to receive RF and rebroadcast as IR to my equipment.
Can I pretty much just use the same programming as my old 15-2116 remote? Are there any pitfalls, problems I should look out for?
Current equipemnt:
Panasonic Plasma
Denon 4802 Amp/Rcvr (switches video to monitor)
Sony series 1 Stand-alone TIVO
Panasonic DVD player
Scientific Atlanta High Def cable box
Thanks!
Switching from IR to RF - any tips?

Re: Switching from IR to RF - any tips?
The 2116 and 2117 are identical from the JP1 standpoint so anything that works in the 2116 should work in the 2117 without modification.krbuck wrote:Can I pretty much just use the same programming as my old 15-2116 remote?
It's been well documented that the RF modules can be prone to spurious RF transmissions. Are there any pitfalls, problems I should look out for?

Yes, I should have mentioned that during my initial searching about, I did find this nice thread on the remote central web site:Mark Pierson wrote:The 2116 and 2117 are identical from the JP1 standpoint so anything that works in the 2116 should work in the 2117 without modification.krbuck wrote:Can I pretty much just use the same programming as my old 15-2116 remote?

It involves a bit of soldering, but I may try it if I have the RF problem.
I did my original programming for my 2116 with IR.exe v3.xx so there may be some streamlining I can do during this switch also, but I don't want to break things too much.

My advice to you is, since the 2116 and 2117 are ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL to JP1 - it cannot tell them apart - and if you're happy that your current setup works,
DON'T MESS WITH IT!
Sure, you may be able to save a few bytes here or there, but "So what?"
"If it works, don't fix it!"
On the other hand, of course, if you simply want to make your IR setup "perfect" and more aesthetically peasing by reducing memory consumption to a minimum, etc. then by all means keep tweaking - after all that's what everybody else here is doing all of the time
