Bose Wave for URC-6131nw 2K
Hi all,
I've been banging my head on this one for several days with no luck. The upgrade file is out there but does nothing for me. I have been able to upgrade for the PVR-250 video capture card and it worked great right off the bat. But the Bose does not respond to any key. Keymaster gives me a manual protocol definition '0123' which seems to load fine into IR. I suspect a protocol mismatch but I am just guessing. I do not have a learning remote so at the moment I can not reverse engineer the protocol.
Any help would be appreciated - Todd
1. Device: Bose Wave Radio
2. Type of device: AM/FM Tuner, CD Player
3. Year: 2004
4. JP1 Remote model: URC-6131 / 6131nw PVR Remote 2K (as reported by IR)
5. JP1 user? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
Bose-Wave-Radio-KM (from hifi-remote and yahoo)

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... dio-KM.txt
Also tried rebuilding protocol from Bose_Wave_Radio-PB.txt
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... dio-PB.txt
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/fi ... udiosystem
The OBC and EFC function numbers match the KM files
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? No learning remote

The upgrade that you are trying to use may be wrong.
Your use of it in IR may be wrong.
If you upload your IR file to the Diagnosis Area of this site then it might help shed more light on the problem. When doing this it is also very helpful if you post again here and include a link to the file you want people to take a look at. Actually, it's pretty essential to post a link otherwise it's unlikely that anyone will notice your file in amongst the now hundreds of others.

Why do you suspect a protocol mismatch?toddsoc wrote:Keymaster gives me a manual protocol definition '0123' which seems to load fine into IR. I suspect a protocol mismatch but I am just guessing.
When you opened the upgrade file in KM, did you change the selected remote to the 6131 bewfore copying the device and protocol code over to IR? If you didn't, that's likely the problem.
Mark
IR file loaded to diagnosis area
I have uploaded my IR file to the diagnosis area. I'm just guessing at the protocol but the codes in the keymap upgrade seem to agree with the Pronto conversions. Yes I did set the Remote type to URC 6131 in keymap.

NEC Protocol
I saw the NEC2 combo in the CCF and did try a variety of NEC settings with no luck so far. I actually think the combo entries are for an optional CD changer device that I do not have.
Thank you for the suggestion though - Todd

Nothing expert about this'm, just guessing: there already exist a couple of "real" protocols 0123 called StreamZap/Anthem that are different from your 0123 and different from anything else used by Bose that I've found on this site. I've seen Bose upgrades using 005A and 011A which are both available in KM and both NEC derivatives with the latter being a combo one and also a couple using 010C which is this:
Code: Select all
42 8B 01 8B 12 A4 45 00 08 00 F8 00 E5 00 F8 02 D7 62 F0 01 F1 02 D7 8D 01 46 I am getting 00b6. I may not be seeing what I am looking at with the ccf. I added an upgrade to your ir file as 2000 on audio key and changed nothing else in it. I put the file here for you to test. It is just basic functions with cd. If it gives you some functions then ya can go from there.
No luck yet
whompus, Thank you for the try but no go with your IR file.
underquark, I tried StreamZap, Anthem, and your 010C code. Earlier I had tried the KM NEC1 which is 005A under KM, NEC 2 Dev Combo which is 011A.
Am I off track? The protocol tab in IR does not show many protocols, just 0145, 003F, and 0123. When I use an upgrade under KM and specify NEC1 it does not give me protocol code to add to IR. Does this mean that that the remote should already have the protocol. I do not see NEC1 under the protocol builder files section on the site.

I load the $0145 and $003F protocols, along with the VCR/1614 (ReplayTV) and AUD/0167 (X10) codes as part of the default load that I pre-load these remotes with, so if you're not using those codes, you can delete them.
As for the $0123 protocol id used in this upgrade, that's just a random number used by the person who created the upgrade, so any similarity that there might be to other upgrades that use the same id is entirely coincidental, so hopefully that clears that up.
I've just looked at the CCF file and the PB file, and everything seems to jive. I've looked at your IR file and don't see any obvious mistakes there either, so I don't have any explanation for why it's not working other than your model of Bose Wave Radio is different to the one these files are for.
I assume the original Bose remote still works, in which case I would suggest that you buy a cheap JP1 learning remote and capture the signals so we can see them.

Sorry it didn't work out. I go along with Robmans suggestion of getting a learning remote.
I like the 6131 remotes and have one in each room here that needs a remote. I do think though, with the nice 6131 remote, a jp1 learning remote is needed for any future devices you may need to build upgrades for.

Thank you for your help - I'll try the learning remote path
Rob,
Thank you for clearing up my confusion. I guess I'll need to dig into the remote architecture a little more deeply if I want to really understand it. If I read between the lines correctly, IR.exe only reports what is in EEPROM and the codes and protocols embedded in (ROM?) are documented in the specificiations for the remote.
I was sort of coming to the conclusion that the recent Bose remotes might differ from the ones used to create the upgrade and protocol files.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions. Once I fingure this out I'll post my findings and resulting files.
Todd

All the codes that are listed in the user manual are indeed stored in the 32k ROM, the 2k EEPROM just stores the user programming, such as macros, keymoves and upgrades.
I think any serious JP1er needs to have a learning remote, or CaptureIR device, at his disposal for situations just like this. I can sell you an 8811 for $24 shipped if you like.
