Can you even guess at the age of this puppy? When you say "older", does that mean 5 years old or 20 years old? With the answer to that question, one might be able to look through some of the old OFA and RS manuals that you can find on my site and see what UEI setup codes where used for NEC amps back then. Then, with that info, one of us might be able to dig up the pertinant info to re-create the codes for your 8910.

According to THIS PAGE, Audio/0264 is an NEC Amplifier code. Have you tried it?

Amp/0264 isn't in the URC-8910, here's an upgrade for it...

Upgrade Code 0 = B1 08 (Amp/0264) Amp/0264 (KM v8.35)
5A 00 EE E1 20 A7 D8 74 B4 34 4C 2C F4 D4 F6 76
B6 BE 3E 6E 66 A6 CE 9C 1C FC 7C FC
End

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2577

There aren't many buttons in that upgrade, so if it does work and there are buttons unaccounted for, you'll have to try the gap OBCs to find them.

Thanks for the amp\0264 file. loaded it up, but still did not work. could not find a date of the amp but 1988 sounds right. I'll keep looking around for the right codes. Thanks for the help so far.

Older OFA remote like the urc-6050 include such NEC AMP codes as 092, 116, 131, in addition to 264.

Have you tried the 8910's built-in code search? Page 27 of the manual ("SEARCHING FOR YOU CODE") - Turn on the device, press and hold SET until CODE SET "appears", press Down arrow to get "MAN SRCH", Press Select, press the most likely device key. Then point the remote at the device and press Select. Then press the Up Arrow and repeat every second or so until the device (hopefully) turns off. At this stage you should note the code number and press Select to store it. This might not be the full code that you need but at least it will give you (or someone else) a clue as to the protocol and device number which id the start to an upgrade.

How did you try each of those codes? Where did you get the data for each of them?

Hey, anfps,

To maybe clarify Rob's reply and question:

You cannot simply enter the setup code number on your 8910 using the "assign setup code" procedure, since these codes are not "naturally" present in the 8910. You need to get the device upgrade(s) for each of those setup codes and upload them to your 8910, and THEN try them to see if they work.

These "official" setup codes are not very readily available, but Robman has a vast library of data and contacts that allows him to frequently come up with them (as he did with the one for 0264 above).

So, his question really is - did you actually upload upgrades for each of those codes you say you tested? or did you just try to "select" those codes on the 8910?

If the former - where did you get them?
If the latter - you didn't really test anything.

Oh.

Then I fear you are really out of luck, unless you can stumble upon an ancient nec remote that someone is willing to loan you to learn the signals, but apparently nobody reading this forum has one, or they would have spoken up by now.

It might be worth lurking on eBay to see if something like this comes up, as there are frequently some really ancient remotes offered up there.

It would have saved us alot of time if you'd actually mentioned that in the first place. For starters, I wouldn't have needed to create the audio/0264 upgrade for you.

When you tested these codes, did you try every button or just the POWER button? I noticed that the 0264 code doesn't have a POWER button, so it's quite possible that your unit can't be powered on using the remote. Does the unit have a push-in/push-out style POWER button rather than a soft-touch button? If so, that would pretty much confirm that you can't power it on from the remote.

You might want to give THIS AUCTION a shot. If it works for you, great :) , if not, too bad  .
In either event, you can re-sell it and your research project would have only cost you a few bucks (for shipping) - depending on how much you resell it for, of course  .
