Christmas codes

Post by koralis »

I'm in a situattion where I'm trying to remotely (haha) buy and program a remote for my parents for christmas. I have a list of their equipment, and by-and-large I think I know what codes to use. If anyone can elaborate on the right code, or hints on some overrides that need to happen I'd appreciate it. I'm particularly concerned about their Emerson EV401 vcr since emmerson seems to have a dozen codes.

4. JP1 Remote model: 8810
5. JP1 user? Yes
6. Still have original remote? No
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No
9. Partially working setup code? Not applicable since I can't test it
10. Learning remote question? No

1. Device: JVC 52G786
2. Type of device: TV
3. Year: 2005
(expected code: 0053)

1. Device: Pioneer DV250
2. Type of device: DVD
3. Year: 2003?
(expected code: 0571)

1. Device: Emerson EV401
2. Type of device: VCR
3. Year: ?
(expected code: ????? There are a LOT of them and I can't figure it out by trial and error since I don't have the VCR here.)

1. Device: Direct TV HD receiver (model #?)
2. Type of device: SAT
3. Year: 2005

If anyone can be of assistance in confirming the numbers I'd be very grateful. Once I have the numbers then I can worry about macros, etc.

Trying to totally program a remote like this, without being in front of the equipment to test it, is a very risky proposition. It's highly unlikely that you'll get it working exactly right.

Even if you do alot of the work beforehand by way of gathering together upgrade files, etc and even starting the programming, I would strongly recommend that you take a laptop and a JP1 cable along with you when you visit your parents so you can complete the programming for them.

If you can't find a file for any of the devices, you can use the URC-8811 to capture the signals and build an upgrade for them on the spot.

Actually, taking things a step further, I would recommend that you not only buy them a JP1 cable, but you also set up some of the programs on their PC (if they have one). That way, if there's ever a problem with the remote, you can have your folks describe the issue to you, you can fix it on your end and then email them a replacement IR image, which they can then load into the remote.

Another alternative I did with someone else was buy them a modem upgradeable remote and send them wav files to run on their PC and update the remote. This assumes they have a PC ofcourse.

I apprecaite the difficulty, and probably WILL send them a JP1 cable with instructions to sample things for me. Still, I'd like to get it as close as possible before doing it. I won't be on-site this christmas, so it'll be interesting.

For the JVC I decided to use the JVC 27230 device upgrade (aka JVC TV with ALL Remote Codes.txt). It seems to have the important codes such as discrete imputs, and a 1-byte protocol... the other one I was looking at was bizarre and used a lot of keymoves to macros, etc.

For the Direct TV I used the D10_SAT_1377 file (will that work for the HD version? Anyone know? I'd assume so, though there might be some tweaking.)

Can anyone with the TV tell me what Video 1/2/3 map to for inputs? Video 1 = HDMI like my Samsung?

I found the Pioneer DV-250 update, but it didn't seem especially special so I just went with the stock 0571. My folks will never use "angle", etc. They just want to hit "Play." :)

Any hints for the VCR? I didn't see any upgrade files at all, so just try a straight code and go from there? Actually I found another post via the search index saying to use 0000 for that particular model. Easy enough! :)
