Code for Philips HDRW720
1. Device: Philips HDRW720
2. Type of device: Hard Disk and DVD Recorder
3. JP1 Remote models: 15-1994, 15-2104, 15-2116
4. JP1 user? YES
5. Still have original remote? NO
6. Checked the file section? YES
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? YES
8. Partially working setup code? NO
9. Learning remote question? Remotes can learn, but I don't have access to original remote
I've already tried the regular Philips DVD recorder device codes (dvdr985 and dvdr80), as well as a couple of Philips DVD players, but no luck so far.
Does anyone have this unit or a working device code?
(or anything that might point me in the right direction?)
TIA,
Rain

Then let's worry about it next week. Your URC-8910 is a learning remote so you can capture the signals and create an upgrade yourself. The other thread that you found indicates that this device uses the RC6 protocol with a device code of 50, so capturing and building an upgrade shouldn't be a problem.
Now I know what you're thinking, why re-invent the wheel if someone else has already created an upgrade. Well, that person forgot to load their upgrade file into the file section, even though we reminded them to do so. Hopefully you won't make the same mistake, and when you're done you will load your upgrade file for us.

Why do you think you need to know? Suffice to say, it can't learn enough to be of any practical use, except decoding. Truth is, it can learn about 25 to 30 buttons depending on the signals in question and how well you learn them. But even if your device has more buttons than that, so what? It just means that it will take a couple of passes to get them all captured. As for your other devices that you're using learning for, let's create upgrades for them too, or if you're happy using built in codes, let's convert your learned signals into keymoves.cliefan wrote:Ok. Thanks. Do you know off hand how many buttons i can learn on the 8910? i have already done it for one of my unsupported devices.
Either way, you'll want to clear out the learning memory, even if just temporarily, before you start the capture process for your new device.

Re: Code for Philips HDRW720
Do you mean that none of the functions work, at all? That's a pity because Philips are reasonably consistent with their codes. Try this and see if it has at least some of the codes:rain8179 wrote:Device: Philips HDRW720

[Edit]I've just remembered that some Philips DVD recorders can be set up to use either the original remote (RC-6 protocol) or a DVD player remote (RC-5) but that this is set up from the device itself. The manual might tell you more.
I note that the remote that comes with this device can be programmed to operate TVs from other manufacturers. A long shot I know, but is it JP1-equipped?
Would you test this one I have been working on for an in-law. (File Removed) I posted it in another thread here but have had no answer as to if it works and if anything is left out. I will be at the in-laws in a couple weeks but would like to take working 6131 for them with me rather then set up ir and rm on the laptop hope the parallel port works. Guess I should do that anyway so could take with me from now on.

I loaded it into my 8910, but i might not get to test it til christmas. The HDRW720 is a christmas present for my wife and I. She isn't too keen on opening it before Christmas...whompus wrote:Would you test this one I have been working on for an in-law. http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2475 I posted it in another thread here but have had no answer as to if it works and if anything is left out. The Robman,
I will get working on the RM upgrade for the device I already learned. HT-DDW660 Home Theater (Sony-HTDDW660) I think there was some talk about it in these forums.

Tell her that you have to open it just to check everything, after all if there's something missing or the unit doesn't work, better to return it now rather than after xmas. And of course, while you have the unit open anyway, you can test the remote code.cliefan wrote:I loaded it into my 8910, but i might not get to test it til christmas. Questions...
I'm trying to learn this remote, but i've got some questions....

Am i doing something wrong while I learn the signals? Interference or something?
When I learned the remote for my stereo, it only had one entry for the signal description for each button. What do all of these other entries mean?
Thanks!

There's no way we're going to be able to check out your learned signals just from those screen shots, we would need to see the entire IR file. If you post the file in the Diagnosis Area and then post a link to it here, somebody will take a look at it.
