Issue with LKP on 8811 remote using extender 3.3

Post by wilk »

Hi,

I've been using JP1 for a couple of years now but just recently started looking at extenders. I'm using the 6012 extender on my 8811 and also using IR6.15. I am having problems setting up a LKP on the device buttons. I've looked throught the DOCs and tried searching here on the forum, but I haven't found anything yet that seems to apply to my situation. I think it's more of a case of me missing or misunderstanding something about the LKP.

I'm trying to setup the device buttons so that a short key press just uses the device (as per remote's normal non-extended function) and a long press will run a macro which selects the correct input on TV, changes the receiver to correct mode, etc.... what happens now is that I must press the device button twice and occasionally 3 times for the LKP to do anything (it isn't set as a DKP in IR). Could someone point me in the right direction please? I have DVD setup as follows:

Macros:
XSHIFT_DVD is V_RCVR;T_DVD;C_DVD;M_DVD;P_DVD;O_DVD;
SHIFT_DVD is X_RCVR;0;O_TV;SHIFT_L1;V_RCVR;T_DVD;C_DVD;M_DVD;P_DVD;O_DVD;

The LKP is defines as follows:
Device DVD; Key DVD ; LKP (TV:1106) duration 1 second
short: XSHIFT_DVD
long: SHIFT_DVD

The above doesn't seem to do anything. If I add the following macro then I get the situation where the remote does 'work' but requires the 2 key pressess for the LKP to function.

Macro:
key: DVD is defined as XSHIFT_DVD

Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestion?

Try to change the DVD macro to call your DVD LKP keymove which already contains xshift-dvd which might explain the need for 2 key presses but I'm not sure.

Hi,

thanks. I just tried that. Unfortunately when I pressed the DVD key the red light went on and stayed on. I had to remove batteries to stop it.

While I can't tell you why your doesn't work, I have my ir file uploaded already that might help you. I use the extender 3 in a 8811. I do the same thing with my device keys, except I don't shift them. Look here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2372
for my ir file.

what I do is use a phantom key for the keymap setup for a particular device. this is what you get on the short key press. the LKP gives you a macro that is device specific (DSM).

check it out and I can answer questions about it. Sorry I can't address your question directly.

P.S. I reread your original post and you'll see that my ir file does what you say your want. I'm not sure why you're shifting dvd and xshifting it also. In my setup , I define shift to be "home theater" button. I only use shifted device keys for power up macros and power down macros that attempt to be global, i.e. effect all equipment. Once the gear powered up, then I use device keys (LKP) to switch between different inputs, devices, etc.

Thanks Jeff. That seemed to do it and cleared a lot up. I followed your setup using DSMs.

Maybe I'll try toadtogs next ;-)

Oh..a question about your set up if you don't mind?

What are the hex codes on your AUX phantom1, 2 & 3 for?

I'm away from the computer that has IR on it, but I believe that those are the Pause Protocol. Each phantom is a different delay. Some of my components (display mainly) is fussy about timing of commands, so I have to slow the extender down a bit in executing a macro.

Glad I could help.

Jeff, your setup is precisely what I had in mind for DVD macro calling LKP.
However, my guess is that with just this one change without adding one more key, wilk is in a forever loop due to DVD calling DVD calling DVD... now that I'm awake :D
So something like this should work
DVD macro = x-dvd, phantom key
phantom-key = LKP short: Xshift-DVD, long: shift-DVD
