Device: Dreambox Mulitmedia - Dreambox 500s
Type of device: FTA Linux Based Sat Receiver/DVR
Year: 2005
JP1 Remote model: URC-9910
JP1 user? yes standard cable w/ IR 6.15 & RM 1.37
Still have original remote? yes, code RC-27005B00
Checked the file section? yes
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=1054 - Get Error pop up "invalid character in input" when I do a Devices/Upgrade Device/Paste/Add
Checked the Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes,
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/fi ... ceiver&fc=
Decoded all three, but not sure what to do with them. I did note that their decodes still has most of the same codes I get when I learn my remote, all with GAP and few EFC codes. So I doubt these work any better than what I've learned since they appear the same. The codes do control the Dreambox, but about every 4 - 8 clicks the system goes crazy launching deep into the menu system. Deep enough that without being able to execute a dozen solid button commands you can't get out.
Learning remote question? (no or explanation)
The learned codes don't work properly, lot's of GAP codes, just like Pronto files. For example, up button will go up a couple times then launches the sat search feature which isn't a simple multi read of up commands as that feature should be a good 12 clicks of multiple buttons away.
Love the Dreambox as an FTA DVR (Muay Thai Boxing every Sat. Morning), hate the remote. I have JP1'ed many remotes a year ago, but with KM and slept a few times since then. I could be making a mistake in RM, but looks pretty straight forward. Copy Device Upgrade, copy Protocol Upgrade, and write to JP1 remote. But between file section's Invalid Character Error and Pronto codes that are the same as my failing codes I'm lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Dreambox 500s
I just downloaded this file, opened it using KM and copied the upgrades over to IR.exe without any problem, so I think the problem is user error.RalphALott wrote:Checked the file section? tried this file - Get Error pop up "invalid character in input" when I do a Devices/Upgrade Device/Paste/Add
Please state exactly, step by step, what you did and maybe we can spot the error. Or, read the following document to see if you can spot it yourself:

Re: Dreambox 500s
I was able to load the upgrade in question into RM no problem. After changing the remote to the URC-9910, and tweaking the Layout a bit, I was also able to copy-n-paste the Device Upgrade Code and Protocol Upgrade Code from RM to IR.RalphALott wrote:Get Error pop up "invalid character in input" when I do a Devices/Upgrade Device/Paste/Add
There must be something different about how you are doing it. You aren't trying to paste the actual contents of that .txt file, right? You know you have to load it into KM/RM and then copy into IR?

Since you appear to be trying to use RM, read http://controlremote.sourceforge.net/rmhelp/rmhelp.html instead. The Robman wrote:Or, read the following document to see if you can spot it yourself:

Follow up
I switched back to KM from RM and followed the guide step by step, still got the same error. I noticed the characters in the Key Move section when I pasted look different in IR than they do in KM. On a hunch I deleted the Key Move section and IR takes the Device Upgrade without error then. Here is how the Key Move paste looks in IR:
8C F4 74 D5 31 00?SHIFT-GREEN: toggleIndexmark?
?8B F4 74 D5 30 00?SHIFT-RED: indexSeekPrev? ?8D
F4 74 D5 33 00?SHIFT-BLUE: indexSeekNext?
I may be getting some funky pastes for some reason (likely some international fonts), or does this Key Move data look good to you? If so my IR chokes on it so I need to look deeper.

Here's how it should look...
8C F4 74 D5 31 00«SHIFT-GREEN: toggleIndexmark»
¦8B F4 74 D5 30 00«SHIFT-RED: indexSeekPrev» ¦8D
F4 74 D5 33 00«SHIFT-BLUE: indexSeekNext»
The << and >> symbols are showing up as question marks in your excerpt, which tends to indicate that you lack the correct font on your PC.
If you see question marks in the snippet that I just posted, that would tend to confirm that you lack the correct font, but I have no idea what the correct font is that you need.

I believe both RM and KM have a way to disable the embedded comments, which would at least give you an easy way to avoid the problem.

Got it.
My system font was set to a non-USA English. Switched Windows XP default to English United States and the issue was resolved.
Thanks for the help.
Still hate the Dreambox remote coding, but I've got a livable solution now.

Re: Got it.
What is it that you don't like? If it's something to do with the remote and how it's set up, we can probably help you set it up how you want it.RalphALott wrote:Still hate the Dreambox remote coding, but I've got a livable solution now.
If you're talking about the Dreambox itself, I can't help you there I'm afraid.
