Teac DV-2190k DVD Player IR Codes
Device: Teac DV-2190k
Type: DVD
Year: 2003
JP1 Remote Model: URC-7040
JP1 User: Not yet
Original Remote: Not Available
Searched: File Section, Pronto File Section
Partially working setup: None
Learning remote: NO
I bought a One-4-all 4-in-1 Signature series remote URC-7040. I was hoping I would have no problems controlling a two year old DVD player. The original remote was lost during a move.
I could not even find a partially working setup code! I went through the whole list using the 991 command. Where can I find the codes?
I have already manually programmed this remote for an LG rear projection television RT-39NZ40RB.
* Found a partially working setup code 0714.
* Found the OBC codes in the pronto file section.
* "Devices-dev.xls" told me this code was RC-5 protocol.
* Used the "Keymaster" spreadsheet to convert OBC codes to EBC.
* Tested the EBC remote codes using the "Magic" key.
* Manually programmed codes using the 994 command.
There is also no RDF available for this model, what exactly is the procedure for creating it? I want to make upgrades and back up the configuration. It appears to be similar to a URC-7540.
I would appreciate any help...

Even if we were to do some research and find the right codes for this device, they won't be of any use to you unless you become a JP1 user.

Isn't the 7040 one of the new JP1.2 remotes that our tools won't work with anyway? That whole signature series is not listed in any of the RDF and MAP/image files.

The 7040 is listed in the JP1 remotes chart at filebug.com but from what this tells me, I wouldn't pick it as my JP1 remote of choice as it would appear to need some work done on it to make it useful.
Underquark: My remote came with a JP1 header pre-installed. It does not appear to need any work.
F.Y.I. "The Robman": I AM GOING TO BUILD a JP1 cable and see what I can download using URC-7540 settings... I was asking about software support, to see whether or not I would be wasting my time... But since the cable is so damn simple I am going to make one anyway.
As for my LG TV I used setup code 0714, which was NOT for an LG television, (none of the LG codes worked). The power button mapped to a Channel+ button I believe. In fact, nothing was correct, even the channel numbers were all wrong, but the protocol was correct (RC5)! So all I needed was the correct EFC codes.
There is a good chance that the universal remote has a setup code which corresponds to the correct protocol for the Teac DV-2190k, but the EFC codes are different, so using the "power button" test will not reveal anything if it maps to the wrong EFC for the device! This is why I wanted the actual DVD codes!

If you look back over past posts in the JP1 forums, you'll see that all of the experts, myself included, go out of our way to help people, including finding codes for them, but I wouldn't want to go to all that effort to find you a code only for you not to be able to use it.
Anyway, now that you have discovered that TV/0714 sends the right signal, this does indeed confirm that your set uses RC-5 with a device code of 0. Even without JP1, you can use keymover to copy the buttons from where they currently are to where they need to be (eg, you would copy CH+ to the POWER button, etc), then you could try searching for the EFCs for the remaining functions (normal warnings apply when searching for EFCs on TV sets).

Robman,
My issue is not with my LG television, it is with a Teac DV-2190k DVD player.
In your original reply to my post you stated that the IR codes are useless without JP1 programming capability. But in my original post, I gave you an example of how I found a setup code with the same protocol and device code for the LG TV and changed the EFC codes to get it to work.
So what I have already said is that there is a good possibility that there is also a "protocol / device id" combination already stored in the URC-7040 remote which may be compatible with the Teac DVD player, so that only the EFC codes need to be manually changed, as shown in my previous example.
Anyway, I am still going to build a JP1 interface, and have decided to go with the Ultra JP1, since I already have the parts, and it is apparently more reliable. As I stated earlier, I suspect my URC-7040 is very similar to a URC-7540, so I am going to find out.

While you did indeed get lucky with your TV, and it's also possible that you could get lucky with the DVD player, I wouldn't back on this being the case as it's not typical. Apart from all the DVD players that share the NEC1 dev 0 code, most devices tend to use unique protocol/device code combos.
But regardless, seeing as how you are planning on making a cable, I'll see if I can find any code info for you.
As for the URC-7040, if the tools don't support it, we'll see if we can add support.

OK, I did some searching and found a file for a Teac DVD player over in the Pronto file section at Remote Central. I decoded it to find that it uses NEC1 with a device code of 133 and a sub device code of 154.
According to my files, there are 3 setup codes that match this profile:
Audio/1074
DVD/0704 - this is a very close match
DVD/0692 - this is a perfect match
I don't know if any of these codes are in your remote. I just created an upgrade file for it...

Just finished building the Ultra JP1 interface, plugged it into the remote and started up IR.exe. The "Remote Interface Check" succeeded. However, when I attempted a download, IR informed me that:
"No definition file could be found for this remote (OG40OG40)"
No surprises here. I have uploaded the raw eeprom data to the "Diagnosis Area":
OG40OG40 (URC-7040)-RAW.ir
What exactly is the procedure for developing a new RDF?

Posting the IR file is the correct start. If I get a chance over the weekend I'll put together a starter RDF for it.smyback wrote:What exactly is the procedure for developing a new RDF?
Where are you located? Are you in the States or over in Europe somewhere? The reason I ask is because I normally like to have the remote in my hands to make the complete RDF as it's quite complicated.

Just developed my own beta RDF for the URC-7040:
OG40OG40 (URC-7040 One for All 4).rdf
It seems to work well.
The Magic/Setup button code of the URC-7540 maps to the "Recall" key of the URC-7040. How do I work out the Magic button code for the URC-7040?

There are several ways to get the real button codes, the most definitive way is to open up the remote and see if the octal numbers (ie, S01, S02, etc) are printed on the PCB. If they are you should list them in a spreadsheet (droppin the S), then use the OCT2DEC function to convert them to decimal, then add 1. The resulting number is the decimal keycode.
Another way, if your remote supports macros, is to create macros that include all the buttons and then read the keycodes from the Raw Data panel.
If your remote doesn't support macros, and the octal codes are not printed, then you need to create keymoves to find the keyodes, but this will only work for buttons that accept keymoves.

Thanks for the valuable info Robman,
The URC-7040 does not support macros. The 995 command gives only one long LED pulse instead of two short pulses.
I am a little reluctant to open up the unit, despite some of the helpful instructions that are available, I really don't think I can open it without breaking some of the clips and damaging the case...
DVD/0692 did not work for the DV-2190K.
As soon as I got JP1 working and started IR, I discovered that the remote had factory installed upgrades that were not documented, specifically DVD/1051 which was able to communicate with the DV-2190k, the arrow keys, digits and play key worked but not the power key and menu key....
I guess I was lucky for a second time with the setup codes!!!
Anyway, it turns out that my DVD player has developed a problem, it will only play CDs and not DVDs. I suspect it has a dual laser optical head and it's DVD laser is dead! So much for my luck...
On the positive side, it was the DV-2190K and it's missing remote that got me started down the road to the wonderful land of JP1...

I decided to go all the way, and opened the remote control using the "Plastic Strips" method. It turned out to be quite painless...
All of the octal button keycodes were printed on the PCB except for the "Joystick" unit. The RDF has been updated.

V0.2 beta
* Button Keycodes corrected using codes printed on PCB.
- Device Button Keycodes corrected.
- Magic button Keycode added.
