DISH PVR functions missing on 8810 remote

Post by fiveolddogs »

I just upgraded to the DISH 625 DVR. I understand this is functionally equivalent to the more common 522. I am using code 0775 for this device, and most of the features work, but the transport buttons are controlling my VCR instead of my DVR, and the PIP buttons seem to do nothing.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks,
Scott

It sounds like you have transport punch-through set to your VCR and PIP punch-through set for your TV. I believe you can only do this using IR and the extender (but I'm not sure). Are you using JP1? If so, that's where I would look first. Otherwise, just upload your IR file to the diagnostic area and post a link and someone will take a look.

I use the JP1 header and IR.exe to program my remote. I checked, and I see no option in the software for transport or PIP punch-through, only volume punch-through. I have never toyed around with extenders.

I will try to find the diagnostics forum and post my .IR file there. In the mean time, if anyone else has any ideas, I'm all ears.

Have you pressed the Home Theatre button? HT on 8910 defaults to transport keys for VCR, PIP for TV, Channel and Menu for CBL so if your new DVR is on CBL and you've hit the HT key this would explain it. Since you haven't told us a great deal about which devices you've got and what keys they're programmed to, I'm only guessing.

Of course, you're just guessing as to what remote he's using as he didn't fill out the template.

I figured putting "DISH PVR functions missing on 8810 remote" in the subject would be explicit enough for this group.

I never use the HT button, but it could have been pressed accidentally. Does this feature toggle on/off?

I went ahead and posted my .IR file HERE.

You'd be surprised how often we miss info when it's just in the subject line and not the message itself, this is just one of the many reasons that we developed the mandatory template that you would have read about in the sticky "PLEASE READ FIRST" thread.

Device: DISH 625
Type of device: DISH PVR receiver
JP1 Remote model: URC-8810
JP1 user? Yes
Still have original remote? Yes
Checked the file section? Yes
Checked the Pronto file section (at R/C)? No

Partially working setup code? Yes, 0775
All functions working except DVR features (transport, PIP)

Learning remote question? Yes
I could of course learn all the missing functions, but since this code appears to work for others for this device, I think my problem may lie elsewhere.

Thanks for the help!

That is normal for the 8810, and all UEI remotes previously, Sat's didn't have transport commands, the VCR was always punch through. Map the EFC's from the bottom of this page.

As you are a JP1 user, rather than bothing with the built-in SAT/0775 setup code, why don't you just load an upgrade and map the buttons exactly how you want them.

That's a great question, Robman. Truth is, I am stumbling through this and don't know exactly what I'm doing.

Would you recommend KM for this, or RM?

I know there are probably a lot of features I am missing out on; I don't have a singe macro programmed into my controller. My original purpose in getting a JP1 cable and remote was to reproduce all major functions of my zillion remotes with a singe remote. Now I'm starting to think about loading an extender and experimenting with macros, etc. But it's a little intimidating, frankly.

I would stay focused on your original goal, if I were you, before you start confusing the issue with all the extra stuff. Once you're comfortable with JP1 you'll find that it's pretty easy to do absolutely everything that you want to with your remotes.

As for KM vs. RM, either one will do. Using KM requires that you have Excel and using RM requires that you install the Java run time environment on your PC.

You should start by reading this doc which explains how easy it is to load an upgrade using KM, and there's a link in there to a version of the same doc that uses RM for the examples...
