Need help with two mods to a ReplayTV 5504 remote

Need help with two mods to a ReplayTV 5504 remote

Post by dblock »

I've had a Pronto NEO for some time, but like the Replay 5k remote better, but it doesn't do all I want. I have a Onkyo DR-C500 AV Receiver/DVD combo, and a Panasonic TH42PHD5 Plasma mnitor. I want to make three mods:
1) Have TV power turn on/off both the TV and the Receiver
2) Have Volume control the Receiver volume
3) Have Mute mute the receiver

I'm totally lost. I have the JP1 cable, have downloaded IR, RDF's and KM, but despite studying the documents in the forum, I'm lost.

I think all this can be done with an upgrade file, but I can't figure out how to make one, and am afraid of uploading something to the remote and rendering it useless.

Anybody want to help?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you've picked a tough remote to learn the JP1 remotes with, because, in it's native state, this remote can't do very much. In order to make this remote useful, you will need to install the extender. This will convert the remote into a 12 device universal remote with support for macros.

Replay remote mod

Thanks. I'll look at that, but for my understanding, why do I need an extender? This topic appears to be a similar situation, but there was no extender needed. Thanks in advance

1) Have TV power turn on/off both the TV and the Receiver
This calls for the macro feature that doesn't exist in the remote.

You don't need the extender if you only need to turn on/off only EITHER one.

Like I said in that thread...
The Robman wrote:If making the volume buttons, and the TV-POWER button work your stereo receiver would be sufficient, then all you need to do is download an upgrade file for a Techics receiver and re-configure it for the R5k remote.

Anything over and above that starts getting alot more comlicated with this remote.
