I'm stuck and could use some help. I'm a little rusty on my JP1 stuff but I have been using it for about 4 years so I'm not a total newbie. I have a new Harman Kardon AVR-235 receiver and I am having difficulties getting certain things to work. I am using a RS 15-1994 with no extender. I tried using this file for a HK AVR325. I can't get any functions to work with this file. So I tried to learn and also ran into problems. With learning, certain keys won't learn such as the down arrow and right arrow. While other keys learn fine. The above HK 325 file uses the "HK combo" protocol which according to the documentation uses 128.112 and 130.114. When I look at the learned keys using IR they show that they are using the 128.112 and 130.114 device codes. I can't understand why the HK 325 file does not work since it seems to be the same as the learned keys. I've also tried using the builtin code of 0110 and some functions work but the keys are not mapped like I need them. Also for some reason when I use the 0110 code the VPT does not work.
I am probably doing something stupid. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
**edit** I am using IR 5.15 and KM 8.32

Help with HK 235 receiver and HK combo protocol

Did you remember to get rid of the learned signals (from the remote's eeprom) while testing the upgrade?
If you left the learned signals then the remote tries to use those instead of the upgrade, but with a protocol upgrade, older remotes such as the 1994 fail to use the learned signal correctly and don't send much of anything.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just deleted all the learned keys for "AUX1" (which I am using for the HK235), deleted the upgrade 1110 and re-added the upgrade 1110 (from the HK325 file). Still none of the functions/keys work. I did get a partial working system by using the combination of the builtin code of 0110 and learning certain keys. I still can't learn certain keys, but I might be running out of learned memory.johnsfine wrote:Did you remember to get rid of the learned signals (from the remote's eeprom) while testing the upgrade?

Awhile back I had a similar problem with a GoVideo D2730 DVD player where the upgrade I created should have worked but it didn't. The only way I could get it to work was to learn the keys I wanted even though the device codes/protocols appeared to be identical between my upgrade file and the learned keys as displayed in IR. Is there any reason why this should happen? Apparently there isn't enough learned memory for these 2 devices (the HK235 and GoVideo D2730). I am going to have to figure out at least one of them. Thanks again.

It sounds like you are making some sort of user error (like not copying the protocol, or something like that) but in order for us to be able to figure out what mistake you are making, we'd need to see your IR.exe file. If you made any changes to the upgrade file that you linked to, please also upload the final version so we know what the upgrade is supposed to do.
Please load the files into the Diagnosis Area (in the File Section) and then post links to them here.

Thanks Rob. I freed up some learned memory and was able to learn the remaining keys I needed so I can get by using this configuration for awhile. I am going to try to do the whole thing over again from start to finish as soon as I get some free time. If I'm still having problems after that I will upload the files and post here again. Thanks again for the help.

Upgrade file?
Hey jayerndl,
Is there anyway that I could ask you to upload the upgrade file for the AVR 235 to this site- or get you to email it to me? I am just starting to utilize this JP1 stuff- needless to say I am VERY overwhelmed! I am using the HT-Pro/URC-9910 so if your upgrade wouldn't work with this remote please feel free to ignore this post. Thanks!!

There's a handful of HK receiver upgrades in the Audio area of the File Section. One of them is THIS ONE. Specific models rarely use unique IR signals, so any number of the HK upgrades should provide you a source to mine for upgrades and functions.
