Controlling equipment through a cabinet

Post by terence8888 »

Hello,

I've been using my JP1 (8810 I think) for a while and am very happy with it. Thanks for everyone's help on the forum.

I had just re-arranged my AV stuff and everything sits inside a cabinet. Needless to say, I have to open the cabinet door for the remote to work.

How do I get my remote to work thru the cabinet? I'm a bit confused by all these blaster etc.

Thanks!

What is the cabinet made of? Are we talking smoked glass, wood etc.? I.e. is it totally or partially opaque to IR (and to what degrre)?

If the cabinet door is glass, it shouldn't be a problem, so I'm assuming it's wood. Therefore, you need to switch to a URC-9910 remote, which sends an RF signal in addition to the standard IR signal. This RF signal communicates with a base unit that converts it back to IR. You would position the base unit by your cabinet. You then connect the "IR Blaster" cable to the base unit and send it into the cabinet, positioning it in such a way that it's light (ie, the IR light) can be seen by all of your components.

Then you'll be able to use your URC-9910 remote when the cabinet door is closed.
