SO I made my cable
got IR and the RDFs
went with RM(seems a little easier and I don't have excel and don't want to risk screwing things up because I am using Open Office)
I am hooked up and IR sees my remote.
Ultimately I think I am on a code search so heres the answers for that
1. Device: Aiwa VX-S205
2. Type of device:TV/VCR Combo
3. JP1 Remote model: DCP501 (Motorola)
4. JP1 user? Yes
5. Still have original remote? Never Had It*
6. Checked the file section?kinda sorta
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)?kinda sorta
8. Partially working setup code? kinda sorta
9. Learning remote question? No
*I do have an X10 model UR19A that works with this tv but I can't for the life of me remember what the code is that I set it up with.
So my dilemma is that I need to set up the Aiwa codes in my remote(I think) but can't quite figure out the correct way to go about it.
I found the Aiwa codes via search( http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4798 ) but when I put it into IR, it gave me a message about the signature in my remote being different from what I was uploading(or something to that effect I can get the exact error if thats necessary. So I am thinking that the Aiwa protocols aren't in my remote and I would like to use an upgrade file to add them but I don't see a "generic" Aiwa upgrade or even an AIWA2 upgrade listed there.
I see that in RM when I select one of the Aiwa codes from the dropdown it talks about how this is sort of cobbled together or something. When I attempt to auto assign the buttons nothing happens. Not sure if I am even doing things right. I see no available functions and I am not sure if I am even going about this the right way.
I have tried following the JP1 for beginners docs but I am not "getting it".
Am I completely confused about things here? or was I close but not quite there. (no exact/close match for my tv/vcr from what I could tell on the pronto or files section) just looking for some words of encouragement and/or direction.

When you start IR, instead of pressing open press new under file, it will ask you what type of remote you want to program and take you off the one it is currently set for. Unfortunately you will have to restart the remote making process in IR. I am a newbie and I think that is the problem you are having (Ihad it to.)

Could you post a copy of your IR.exe download file in the Diagnosis Area and then post a link to it here please. The current DCP501R RDF was created for a remote with the signature MGRAMGR1, but I know that there are versions of this remote where the signature is MGRAMGR0.
Actually, once you've saved your current IR file, could you go to IR and do an "Advanced > Initialize to $FF", then once this has loaded into the remote, do a 981 reset (to do this, you press and hold the TV button for 6 seconds, then you type 981), then take a fresh IR.exe download. This is what we call a "virgin" file, could you also post that please.

I've created a clone of the "ver 1" RDF for your remote, give it a try...
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=1852
I've not seen your remote in person, so I'm assuming all the settings are the same as for the "ver 1" version, but I could be mistaken.
If this RDF doesn't work right, I'll need to borrow your remote to get a good RDF.

here's the two dumps. let me know if I did them right.

I'll grab the other RDF and try that to see what I get in a second.

That's interesting. Your original file shows "version 0" but the reset file shows "version 1", which seems to imply that your remote is the same as the one I have already decoded, therefore you should be able to use the current RDF to work it.
