Response - no response from interface?
Took delivery of my Hovis cable a couple days ago, plugged between my 7800 and parallel cpu port. Worked nicely, but all of a sudden this morning it won't interface. Tried it on another computer; same noresults.
Any chance wires/connectors have come loose in the cable? How can I test or inspect for failure points?
Yes, I'm a novice. That's why I bought a premade cable. Sure appreciate any thoughts.

Actually because it stopped working on my desktop I installed the software on my laptop with the same noresults. I'll reboot to see if that helps. BTW, I checked system-devices-properties for the parallel port to confirm I'm using the correct port address. Although this shouldn't have made this thing work then quit.
Keep your thinking cap on!
PS: while typing this response (on my desktop) I rebooted the laptop - no dice.

My experience is that each combination of a JP1 RC model and PC has a unique "sweet spot" regarding battery voltage that allows it to communicate successfully with a given PC. Aside from trying "with" and "without" batteries, have you tried with "weak" batteries vs. "fresh" batteries? I have several JP1 remotes that only communicate with IR with fresh batteries, some with weak batteries, and some with no batteries.jc4715 wrote:On your suggestion, just popped the batts out and tried - same "no response".
Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks for your interest!
You can simulate "weak" batteries by reversing one out of four fresh batteries for the up/download.
