Akai DVD200BL DVD Player

Picked up this player at the swap meet this weekend without remote and was sure I could find a code for it on JP1. Guess I'll have to build it. Can anyone with the remote for this device and JP1 post a couple of working codes with protocol and I'll try to map the rest out.

Found out on google that these were sold at Blockbuster (in case anyboby remembers picking one of these up there). Very nice looking, black low profile player with MP3, CDG, VCD, and Kodak picture CD support. Unfortunately, the only buttons built-in to the player are power, play, stop, and eject (No navigation).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only info I can find on Akai DVD players is the list of setup codes for those in the URC-8060. Those setup codes are 0788, 0690, 0713 and 0705.

I assume all of those setup codes are for DVD players sold in Europe, not in the USA. I have no idea where Akai brand is sold nor where you are, but your 15-2117 and 15-1994 tend to imply USA.

I have some more data on each of those setup codes beyond the basics listed (for just three of them) in Rob's devices.xls file.

If you want to test them, you can start an upgrade for each and program the play button and see if it works. The Play buttons are:

DVD/0690 NEC1:136 EFC 122
DVD/0705 NEC1:128 EFC 041
DVD/0713 RC5:29 EFC 240
DVD/0788 NEC1:0.254 EFC 232

If one of those works, I can dig up more data for the rest of the code set.

Tried the above codes and no luck. Even

DVD/0713 RC5:29.31.31 EFC 240

like in the devices.xls file and still no luck.

Maybe someone with the original remote and JP1 could be so kind as to post some info.

Probably a long shot, but take a peek at this AKAI DVD upgrade in RM

It's NEC1 protocol, device 32, fixed bytes 00 FB FB (like TV & SAT). Play button is obc 6, efc 182, hex 9F.

Didn't realize JP1 had it's own file area outside of the yahoo JP1 group.

Anyways, tried the file you so kindly pointed out and no joy.

I've seen on google that Akai is associated with Samsung, going to try those upgrade codes too.

The white directv UEI universal remote lists a Akai dvd code 20899, which would be 0899 in other UEI remotes. And the Radio shack 15-2142 lists dvd 1975 as an Akai dvd code.

I could not find any info (protocol, device) on the 1975 or 0899 codes you suggested (you wouldnt happen to have it for either of these), but using your info I found a remote, the UEI Atlas DVR/PVR 5-device remote, that referenced both the codes you mentioned in addition to 0770 and 1089.

I was able to find the protocol and device info for 0770 in the devices.xls file and built a device file to upload and test, but so far still no response from the player.

Haven't given up just yet. The 15-2142 is $10 at my local radio shack, might pick one up to see if the 1975 code works.

While searching ebay for an OEM remote for the Akai DVD200BL, i was noticing that some of the Daewoo model dvd players resembled some of Akai DVD players. So I decided to take a stab at trying some of the Daewoo upgrades on the yahoo JP1 group and low and behold I found one that worked!

Daewoo 5000N device upgrade code.txt
(In the Files > 3. Device Codes > DVD folder)

This device code controls the basic (power, menu, chapter select ...) functions of the DVD player. I'm going to go through all of the EFCs and see if I can map some more remote functions for this player.

Looks like the RM file you recommended was really close. The Daewwo upgrade is NEC1 protocol, device 0, fixed bytes 00 FF FF, Play is EFC 182.
