8811 keymove documentation clarification please

Hi there,

In the documentation for the 8811 extender I don't understand one paragraph in the device specific macro section and would like someone to just clarify it for me please. The paragraph reads:

For macros up to 13 key codes long, there is a more direct way. You can translate each key of the macro to a hex value (see Appendix A at end of this file) and put the entire macro into the KeyMove as a hex command.

Does this mean that I wouldn't enter anything in the Macro tab of IR and would enter the entire macro in the Keymove tab. If this is the case, and I wanted a macro of, say, 5 steps long, how would I enter 5 hex codes in the keymove setup screen?

Or, am I misunderstanding something here.

IR 6.00 has added the Special Protocol Functions tab, which makes DSM much easier. You no-longer have to worry about hex keycodes and such. You just create the DSM by selecting keys, much like creating a normal macro. You just do it an different place.

Hi Greg,

I am using IR 6.00 and I don't appear to have the Special Protocol Function tab that you refer to.

It's alright, forget the last post. The RDF path was set to the IR5 directory whereas the new RDF files were in the IR6 directory.

I now have the Special Protocol Functions tab.

Just one more thing,

Is it possible to create a DSM with a protocol that is not asigned to a device button.

I'll explain. I have the AUX device programmed with one protocol and most keys asigned, but I want the power button to be a macro made up of 4 commands from a different protocol. This second protocol has only got these 4 buttons in it and is only for this macro so I don't want to waste a device key on it.

Any advice on achieving that?

Bu definition, a macro or DSM is a sequence of key presses. Any commands you want to send in a macro or DSM must be assigned to keys. So you must either assign that device upgrade to a device key, or you must create keymoves for those commands, bound to unused keys (maybe shifted digits?) of the AUX device.
