Gateway 13" LCD TV
I was wondering if there are any recommendations for controlling the volume using a showstopper remote. Trying to control the 13" Gateway LCD TV I have. Can't find any codes that work. The codes for my GW 42" plasma don't do the trick.
I would also like to add a key to my Replay remote for the Commercial Advance button that is included on the newer 5000 series replay remotes. Can anyone help with this?

I think the problem is that you don't have a learning remote. I looked everywhere I could think of for a hint of the protocol/device used by that Gateway device and found nothing.
My suggestion is that you invest ~$18 for an URC-8810w at Walmart and learn the commands and we'll help you put together a device upgrade. You will also get a great remote that has a good extender.

I have a kameleon remote form radio shack that has learning but no JP1.
I also have a pronto neo TSU500 that can learn. Is the requirement just for remote that can learn?
I also have a Harmony remote if that helps. I've used JP1 in the past to program the showstopper remote to include the protocol for the sony DAV-FC9 home theater in a box. not sure how much more the rplay remote can hold. Hopefuly you can help me with this process as I am eager to learn but don't have months to study all the ins and outs of JP1; the wife just wants to control the TV volume

What we need is a way to extract the details of the learned signals from the remote, by downloading to the PC. This can be done with some prontos, but I don't know if that is true of the Pronto Neo TSU500

I have hookep up the kameleon with a power source (transformer with wires to the battery leads) The remote functions as normal now even wihtout the batteries as it is plugged in. I have the JP1 cable hooked up to the computer (verified proper connection of the cable using the shwostopper remote and ir.exe - download/upload suceeds) When I try to use the male adapter (the one that comes with the JP1 cable) in the kameleon by placing the pins directly on the six gold plated tabs inside the battery compartment, ir.exe says the remote is not responding. ANy ideas? Are the pogo pins somehow different? Assuming a metal to metal connection I am not sure why this does not work.

What voltage are you supplying to the remote with the transformer?
The Pogo pin adapter is designed to ensure a positive connection to all 6 pads at the same time. The problem with the header pins is that they're somewhat fixed in their position and while it may appear they're all making contact, one or more may not be (or the contact is a good one).
Try it without power to the remote to see if it responds any differently.

thanks for the quick reply. I am supplying 6 volts to the remote (300milliamps). I have tried the connector wihtout any power to the remote - still no response from the remote. I don't really mind purchasing a pogo pin adapte if you think it may be necessary. I certainly can't guarantee all 6 are great connections holding this connector with my hand. Is there a place to buy just the pogo adapter and not the whole cable?

I have the data from a Gateway remote itself (it's a CAT 48). Try these upgrades to see if the main buttons work (ie, numbers, channels, volume, power). The upgrades are actually formatted for a different remote, but if you way that one of them partially works, I'll re-format it for the Replay remote.

I really appreciate the help! Can you tell me which remote I am to try this new protocol and device codes on? My showstopper remote is full as per ir.exe so I can't add the codes there. I need to find a way to delete the GW plasma protocols and device from the showstopper temote to make more room. Do you know how I can just reset the remote back to factory settings?

What is the Showstopper remote full with? My guess is that it's full with a bunch of upgrades that you aren't even using, this is because the Showstopper remote was loaded with new versions of the $00C9 and $001F protocols, so therefore they had to load new versions of all the main Panasonic TV and VCR setup codes as upgrades. You could delete all of these upgrades and the 2 protocols without losing any functionality, even if you are using one of the setup codes.
But regardless, just for the purposes of testing the upgrades that I posted, you could save your current config, then delete as many upgrades as is necessary to load the upgrades I posted just so you can test them. Once we know what code your TV uses, we can figure out what to do next.
If you want someone to review your Showstopper config file, post it in the Diagnosis Area for one of us to look at.
Use the 981 command to do a factory reset if you like, but be aware that this will delete everything, including the upgrade that works your ReplayTV.
