Onkyo TX-SV444/Radio Shack 15-2117 JP1 Remote Question

1. Device: Onkyo TX-SV444
2. Type of device: audio receiver
3. JP1 Remote model:Radio Shack 15-2117
4. JP1 user? Not yet, just bought remote today and learning. Will become one this week.
5. Still have original remote? yes
6. Checked Yahoo file section? yes
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? no

I'm sorry to post this question, but, the FAQ states that

"The truth is, you can learn to almost ANY button with the exception of the device buttons, and the power button on a few models. "

Can I program the Radio Shack 15-2117 to power on this receiver? Can this power button be programmed to power on this receiver? I know I'll have to make/get a cable and use the software to learn everything, but can I program the power button on this remote?

The remote will not recognize any of the setup codes I have put in for the Onkyo receiver, but I was able to learn the power button from the original remote and can power it on using another button.

IIRC, the 2117 is one of the remotes the prohibits learning to the Power button.

Yes, but with the power of JP1, he will be able to program the Power button to control his receiver. He just can't do it through learning.
