1. Device: DVR-310 Pioneer
2. Type of device: DVD Recorder
3. Remote model: Radio Shack 15-2104 or Comcast DVR 3 Device
4. JP1 user? No
5. Still have original remote? Yes
6. Checked Yahoo file section? Yes
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No
This Pioneer DVD Recorder manual says to use Pioneer VCR device codes when programming a universal remote, but none work. While I could learn it to the 15-2104, I really would like to find a device code for the non-learning Comcast DVR 3 Device.
Thanks-

The only Pioneer DVR I have seen uses the Pioneer 2-device commands and has a similar command set to the DVD's but the first command is always different, the second command is the same or similar. I saw no Pioneer VCR's even listed out of 471 files for Pioneer devices at RC, so my advice is spend the $14 for a JP1 cable. You probably only need to learn a few commands to confirm that the command set looks like what I have.
I would bet the price of the cable that no built in setup code exists in either of your two remotes. The good news is that I guessed at a discrete power command for the DVR that several people have reported as working.

jon_armstrong- Thanks for your reply. I'll get a cable and do some "required reading" on its use over the holidays. I do see some posts here on the hard drive equipped version of my Pioneer DVDR, and I'm guessing its using the same IR commands.
The only "universal remote" that I ever got to work with the Pioneer 310 DVD recorder was the "VCR Commander" feature of my Scientific Atlanta 3250HD cable STB. The device code was 0072, which was common to Pioneer VCR's, NAD VCR's, and Optimus VCR's. It never made sense to me that the STB could control the 310, but not the remote for the STB.
