Request for General Instrument DSR-4200c Upgrade
Howdy....
As the subject says, I'm looking for an upgrade for a DSR-4200c sat receiver.
The device code 627 gives me 'vague' functions on a few keys: Wrong mapping though and Wont Power off or on. I also put this code into my Cinema7 URC-7200 (nonJP interface type) and got some functionality a few buttons worked, Not the same ones, but still no power off, and no access to menu functions. The 627 code is the only code in the list for General Instrument or Primestar that will give any responnse, so I believe I'm on the right track.
I'm told this receiver will work with a Primestar remote, and indeed they share the 627 code as listed in my Maestro II Sheet
So to Summarize:
1. Device: General Instrument DSR-4200c Satellite Receiver
2. Type of device: Sat Reciever
3. Remote model: NextLevel Maestro II (my Current remote)
4. JP1 user? Yes Have home made interface that works
5. Still have original remote? No
6. Checked Yahoo file section? yes
7. Checked Pronto file section yes
Any Advice?
thanks for reading and Happy Holidays!

Re: Request for General Instrument DSR-4200c Upgrade
That's the key fact in the post. Almost everything else is redundant or irrelevent once we know that SAT/0627 partially works.seiko wrote: The device code 627 gives me 'vague' functions on a few keys: Wrong mapping though and Wont Power off or on.
But it might help to know some of the examples of wrong mapping (key X does function Y).
SAT/0627 use the GI 4DTV protocol, which is exactly what we'd expect a GI DSR to use (and many Motorola devices use it as well).
The usual setup code for GI 4DTV protocol is SAT/0869. It is also available in SAT/0361. I haven't yet compared the function mappings of those three setup codes, so I don't know if one of the other two will be better for you than 0627, but it's worth trying. Those are the only three built-in setup codes worth trying.
Using KeyMoves with EFC numbers, any one of those three setup codes could be adjusted to work right for your DSR, but first you need to find those EFC numbers, and it might take a lot of KeyMoves, so you want to pick the one of three setup codes that's closest to start with.
There are several places to look for those EFC numbers. I'll try to get back to you later with some of that info.
Edit: On reread of your post, I noticed that you want to use the Maestro II, which has 0361 and 0627 but lacks 0869. I think 0869 is the best bet for fitting your DSR, so try that in your Cinema 7. If it works we can use that info to help get the Maestro II right.

I've just looked through my files at all the setup codes that use the GI 4DTV protocol and they all have the same codes for the numeric buttons and POWER, so I don't think SAT/0869 is the answer here.
Just like John, I would also like to know which buttons on your Maestro II, when using the SAT/0627 code, perform which functions on your GI box. If different buttons do different things when you use your URC-7200, please mention those also.
Please test EVERY button on the Maestro and 7200 and list all functions that you find. I will assume that any buttons that you don't mention don't perform any function on your Gi box.
With this much info, I can create a starter upgrade for you which you can then use to find the rest of the codes that you need.

I just found commands for the G.I. DSR 4200v
http://ir.premisesystems.com/search.asp ... l=DSR4200V
I find it very surprising that the 4200c would have different commands.
I decoded the '0' function with IrTool and reencoded it with KM and got the same hex command that is in SAT/0869, so if the digits didn't work for you, I suspect some testing error.
Unfortunately, most of what I said about finding and using EFC numbers is incorrect. I had forgotten that the official executor for 4DTV doesn't compute the check bits on the fly, so it doesn't have EFC numbers (the hex command contains too many variable bits for old style EFC numbers).
However, none of that stops you from building an upgrade with KM.

Great idea...Ill do a detailed survey of the buttons and post back. Thanks Chief!

I tuned John's link into a KM file upgrade here
IIRC, you must use OBC's with the KM Upgrade for the hacked protocol which is what I did. I tested the numerals an all seems OK.
You must add the device and protocol upgrade for this to work properly and dont forget to assign cable/1627 to the cable device button in the General tab of IR.

Interesting info....although I may need to run Internet Eplorer to properly access the page's javascript output....Firefox doesn't seem to handle it right...so far...Should be useful info there though.
Thanks to you John a d Rob for the nudge in the right direction... I'll summarize the key functions here as soon as I figure them out. The supposedly most important function to get working is the buy/timer button as it accesses some set up functions, or so I have gathered from the 4DTV forums.....(everyone there says just buy a Primestar 301 remote, but ...easier said than done)
Ironic to this: I just had a look at a Jensen model Remote with the 0869 code assigned to none other than the NextLevel Sat receiver, which is also a GI box If I recall...
please stand by......

Cool Thanks!...I;ll give it a whirl.. and let you all know!

I have installed the Firefox add-in that puts "open link target in IE" onto the right click menu for links.seiko wrote:Firefox doesn't seem to handle it right...so far.
I use that for the final link to the specific model at Premise, because I don't normally have IE open; I have all bookmarks including Premise in Firefox; and IE is much slower than Firefox to get through the HTML pages to select by letter and brand from Premise.
But if you find a way to get that Java part to work in Firefox, tell me. Lots of other Java works in Firefox.
Results so far with DSR 4200, Sat/0627 & Co
So far the most useful results come from my urc-7200 (non jp1 type) with code 0869. What works is:
Menu
Blue arrows(4) Channel changes et cetera
mute
Vol Up/Dn
previous channel
enter
number keypad
from the PiP section:
on/off seems to clear the display banner.
The posted 4200 file gives me the same as the non-upgraded remote on my Maestro:
0361/0627/1627
Vol up/dn works
mute works
channel up/dn works
last channel works
number keys will change channels
The most important keys to me are the menu, number pad and the timer key. Timer key is used to access special setup functions....tried mapping it myself, but nothing happends
Curious to all this almost every keypress, wether it accesses a function or not, will at least toggle a little dot sized LED on the receiver display panel.

Did you assign all the functions to buttons in the device upgrade I posted? There were a number of commands that I did not assign. I show that these weren't assigned:
program/guide
up arrow
down arrow
left arrow
right arrow
tv/vcr
FAVORITES
OPTIONS
TIME
TIMER
VIEW
In addition I compiled a list of commands that other devices that use this same protocols, not included in the upgrade. The labels may not be accurate but they may be hidden commands:
OBC
012 down2
022 back
033 Green Dot
031 help
026 interests2
034 Next
019 tuning screen
003 tuning screen1
008 up2
043 *
Add these to the functions tab and then assign in the buttons tab.

Yes I did. Still no go so far. I'll plug away at it though. There's quite possibly a pilot error somewhere -- been known to happen to me. FWIW the original factory remote model # is INRC-42. Does this mean anything to anyone here? Didn't pop up in Forums search.
Happy Holidays!

Code search 4200c follow-up
Happy New Year one and all...
After a little ebay searching I found the correct remote for my 4200c. And it works.
Now I do not have a learning remote, but do own a palm pilot, and wonder if the site would benefit from a learned output file generated by omni-remote for the palm? Just downloaded the package and am intrigued. Any Interest?
The 4200 series is a commercial ( corporate, instutional and acedemic applications -- and thanks to ebay, hobbyists) DigicipherII receiver, and as such isn't in wide circulation. But there might be someone else out there who has hit the same wall I did.
(Never did manage to get any of the posted upgrades working, though this may well be due to my own error somewhere.)
Thanks again!
