Saving to a .txt file in IR

Post by jason-wein »

I am going to try my hand at the 8811 extender but the instructions say to say a working good copy or the IR file to a text file.
I am using IR6.00IRC and when I choose 'save as' I don't have an option as to what file type to save it as - only *.IR.
What am I missing?
The reason for me trying the extender is so I can put macros on the device buttons so that when you press DVD everything that needs to happen for the DVD to start happens (major WAF in this).
Thanks for this.

Sure looks like a bug that Mark Pauker will need to look into.

In the meantime, you can use the File, Merge using ExtInstall command to run ExtInstall using the current IR contents.

I was able to convert a file using IR6.00. Like in IR5.15 there are some specific requirements.

Exinstall.exe must be in the same directory as IR6.00. Additionally make sure that you have the .hex files as well (this can be located anywhere). The .hex file is found in the same zip file as the extender you are trying to use.

The only difference with IR6.00 is that you can use the .IR file instead of having to use the .TXT file.

My experience with IR5.?? was error messages during installation and conversion. I found that Extinstall had to be in the same directory where RDFs are, or I had to move RDF for my remote to IR. I did it both ways. So I wonder what's the official procedure?

Not really. Exinstall should be whereever IR is. I did this simply becasue I keep all apps in one directory.
