URC 7801 / Motorola DSR922

Post by lmrapp »

I had a GI 2450 receiver which I just replaced with a Motorola DSR922. I understand the 922 is the same as the GI receiver which it replaced. (I have the remote). I tried downloading Gen. Instr. 4DTV.txt and adding it to KeymapMaster v8.31 and then copying it to IR 5.15, but it didn't work. (Could easily be that I did it incorrectly)

I originally programmed these a few years ago and may have forgotten the procedure. I got out "JP1 for beginners" but I must be missing something.

Can anyone tell me if the Gen. Instr. 4DTV.txt works with the Motorola DSR922?

I have a bunch of modified One for All remotes URC 7800 including one which has no extender installed. That one can be used to learn codes from the remote if I have to.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Larry

What sort of device is this, is it a digital cable box? If so, CBL/0476 should work it.

Please learn a few buttons using the URC_7800 and tell us how they are reported.

Thanks, Rob,

It is a digital satellite receiver. It receives both analog and digital C band and analog K band. It is not a cable box. It is supposed to be exactly the same as the GI receiver it replaced.

I'll learn a few commands after supper and send them in.

Rats. I tried to learn commands. I hold the setup key until the red light blinks twice, then I push 9 - 7 - 5, but the red light only blinks once. I can then press VCR, or whatever, but then pressing the learning key, nothing happens. I don't know what's wrong, but it may be that I tried earlier to upload something to this remote, so I will have to figure out how to restore it.

I know some newer models disable the 975 command when they don't like the eeprom contents. I didn't think the 7800 did that. But it's worth trying the usual correction.

Long press of setup, then 981. (That clears everything in the eeprom back to factory default. I assume you can restore whatever you wanted by JP1 cable later).

Then retry the learning (long press, 975, etc.)

That did it - thank you!

I'll now try learning some keys and post them.

Hi Guys,

Hope I'm doing this correctly. I posted a file:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... MRDump.zip
which contains the learned signals from a 7800 remote. The signals are learned from the Motorola DS922 Remote and are:
1. Power
2. Channel Up
3. Channel Dn
4. Up arrow

They all show as G.I.4DTV protocol Device 0 and OBC codes 6, 11, 16, and 35 respectively. Hope this helps.

Thank you,

I think I have it now. I downloaded Gen. Instr. 4DTV.txt entered it into keymap-master-v8.31 and made a few minor changes. Then I loaded those changes into IR creating a new device code - 0627. After uploading to the remote, everything seems to work. The only problem I have left is that both "exit" and "go back" seem to have the same OBC code. I am going to learn both of them into the learning remote. If the codes are the same there, I guess it's ok. If they are different, I'll do a key swap, maybe putting "go back" into shift exit.

Thanks for the help

Those results are consistent with the SAT/0627 setup code, which isn't in the 15-2116, but they are also consistent with the 4DTV codes, so you should be able to use the 4DTV files in the file section.

Turns out that "go back" = OBC 22, and "exit" is OBC 5. I guess that means I have to add it.

Try 0869. The 4DTV needs to be set to address 0.

Thanks, address = 0 is, fortunately enough, the default. I am using 0627 and it seems to work ok.

Best,

The differences between SAT/0869 and SAT/0627 are very minor. The only buttons that have different codes are DISPLAY, MENU, SELECT and EXIT.

Here are the OBCs...

869 627 Button
--- --- ------
020 021 Menu
021 013 Select
022 040 Exit
039 --- Display

Rob,

Thanks for those. this further stengthens my belief that 0627 is the correct setup code, since the OBC's agree. Furthermore, there is no "Display" button on the Motorola DS922 remote and there is no code listed for it in your post!

This receiver automatically (if you permit it) moves the satellite to satellite G10 every night at 2am to download bios updates and the program guide. When you turn it on after a download the first macro does not work correctly. Not a big deal, because if you cycle it various ways the macro will work. Ftm, if you simply press a macro button twice, it seems to work the second time.

I am going to experiment to see if I can add a sequence of keys which will have no effect normally, but will act as some form of cycler so that the sequence of keys which follow act as a conventional macro. I should note that a macro for me does something like this:

M_TV
1
4
M_VCR
T_VCR
P_TV
V_TV
8
DISPLAY
3
6
SELECT

That sets the television you're watching to channel 14 gives control to the satellite receiver, sets that to channel 8 and then moves the dish to satellite T6. (basically switches whatever you're watching to PBS)

Best,
