Help me understand "Sent Once When Key Is Pressed"

I am learning keys from my Toshiba TV remote control to my RS 15-2117 remote control. I am downloading the 15-2117 into IR600 RC1.

I learned the "Menu" key from my Toshiba remote to two different keys on the 15-2117, the "Menu" and "Select" keys.

I am analyzing the "Raw Data" section in IR600 RC1, under the "Learned Signals" tab.

I expected to see the same "Frequency" and data for "Sent Once When Key Is Pressed" for both the "Menu" and "Select" keys on the 15-2117, but this is not the case.

I have also noticed that if I relearn the same key over and over, each time the "Sent Once When Key Is Pressed" data is different.

Please help me understand the "Raw Data" section under the "Learned Signals" tab.

Everything in that Raw Data section is for experts only. You would need to learn quite a lot about the structure of IR signals before that information could have any value to you.

There is no reason for most JP1 users to learn any of that. The information you need is Protocol, Device, Sub-Device (the fact that it is blank is significant information) and either OBC or EFC (depending on how you want to use the IR data).

But since it's a Toshiba TV, you didn't really need any of that nor did you need to learn the signals at all. Toshiba TV's are very consistent, so almost all you need is already present in the built-in setup code TV/0156. Anything missing from that can be found in the lists of advanced codes (EFC's) for TV/0156 and/or in existing upgrades posted for Toshiba TVs.

Yes, the built in code works for most buttons, I'm just trying to better understand how it works.

If the same button on the Toshiba is learned to two different keys on the 15-2117, shouldn't the data in the "Sent Once When Key Is Pressed" box be consistent?

Define "consistent". If you're expecting every number to be 100% exactly the same, then you are mistaken, but if you are expecting them to be "logically" the same, you are correct.

The more important question is, is the information that is displayed at the top of the screent he same? (ie, the protocol, device code and OBC) ? My guess is that it is.

Also, the fact that you are only seeing data in the "sent once" panel and nothing in the "sent repeatedly" panel, tells me that you are not learning the signals properly.

To learn signals correctly, you should continue holding the button on the teaching remote until the learning remote indicates that the learn was successful.

If you really want to know what the data in the "sent once" panel means, you'll need to understand alot more about IR signals. If this interests you, you can start by reading this...

Rob, you are "The Man"

You hit the nail on the head. My learning technique was wrong. I was tapping the buttons rather than holding them down.

Using the "tap" method, I was getting different protocols, different frequencies and differing "Sent Once When Key Is Pressed" panel results, even for the same button.

Using the "hold the button down" technique has resulted in consistent results. Now every learned button show the same protocol and frequency. If I learn the same button on the Toshiba remote to multiple buttons on the 15-2117 the data in "Sent Once When Key Is Pressed" is the same, except for the last digit.

This is what I originally expected to see.
