RCA CC275 VHS camcorder?

Post by bizzybody »

1. Device: RCA CC275
2. Type of device: Full size VHS camcorder
3. Remote model: RS 15-2104
4. JP1 user? yes (Soon as I build the simple LPT interface)
5. Still have original remote? no
6. Checked Yahoo file section? yes
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes

From the dark red window below the lens, and how using accessory lenses fouls up the autofocus, I assume it uses through the lens autofocus and the red window is for an IR remote I've never had.

I just bought the RS 15-2104 at a Radio Shack that's going out of business. Looks like I got ripped at $20 "half-price". :( (The store still has six new Betamax tapes and various electronic parts that've been on the wall from _before_ they moved to their current and final location nearly 20 years ago!)

Other hardware I intend to use the remote for (which will be far easier to setup than the camcorder) are an Apex AD-1100W DVD, JVC RX-552V audio receiver/amp/switcher, RCA DRD420RE DirecTV receiver, Zenith VR4206HF VCR and a 32" Sanyo TV.

All of them are directly supported by the 15-2104 except for the DVD and half-arsed support for the JVC.

On the DVD, I programmed the single Apex DVD code, but all it will do is kick it off screensaver, which is more than all the other non-JP1 remotes I have will do with their Apex codes. For the JVC it mostly works but some of the source inputs aren't selectable at all while the working ones are randomly scattered amongst the number keys.

As for the Sanyo TV, I'm happy that Sanyo got a clue way back in 1995 and made all their non-PIP TVs use the same remote codes so that any of their TV remotes from then to now will work. :) (I just wish the Sanyo remote was JP1 because the only things its JVC code will do is Power on/off, volume up/down and switching it _to_ FM radio but not to any other function.)

Anyway, when I get this thing sorted out, I'll post the file for the JVC RX-552V to the proper location.

RE: Camcorder , that is most likely an Hitachi built machine and none of them that I have ever seen (in full size VHS) had a remote. They all used IR range finding auto focus (AF). One element of the AF system is a position detector mechanically connected to the zoom ring on the lens. (it physically moves a little lens in front of the IR receiver) An accessory lens messes up that mechanical feedback system and causes AF to not work correctly. A through the lens system will often work with accessory lenses since it actually analyzes the image received to adjust the AF.
Just call me Zaphod (or Steve) --- I never should have started using numbers in a screen name but I just can't stop now.
