I'm trying to build an upgrade code for a Philips DVD727 remote. When I learn keys from the remote, I get a mixed bag of protocols when I look at the learned signals in IR. For some keys I get JVC1 protocol with device code 9. For other keys I get JVC2 protocol, device code 17. On still other keys I get JVC2/19. For many keys I get no protocol info at all. I've tried learning on my Cinema 7 several times, taking pains to get as clean a learn as possible. I'm using IR 3.12 and I did download DecodeIR.dll and placed a copy in the directory from which I run IR.

I also took a look at a couple of the Philips DVD player files from the device code area. They seem to use the RC6 protocol.

I placed a copy of the saved text file from IR in the diagnosis area of the jp1 forum as Philips DVD727 learned.txt. Can anyone see something wrong with the file or otherwise help me get an upgrade code built for this remote? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'll look at your file later, but without looking I'm fairly sure you didn't use DecodeIR.DLL.

If that DLL isn't where IR can find it, OR you use an older IR.EXE that doesn't try to find it, then IR will use internal decoders that make mistakes like the ones you described.

IR 3.12 isn't able to use DecodeIR.DLL. You should download IR 3.21 form the JP1 files section and you will see, your remote is using protocol RC6 (pID: 00 58), device 4. This is DVD/0539, which is a build in code of the C7.

John, thanks for your reply. Based on it, I went to check my set up. I was using a shortcut that I had set up to point to ir.exe some time ago. I looked in the subdirectory where I keep IR and found in there an executable for IR_decodeIR.exe. When I run this version of IR, I do get what looks to be good protocol info, with the same protocol and device code for each button. It is RC6 like the other Philips player codes I saw.

Thanks for pointing out my problem!

Uwe, I did try code 0539. But it didn't seem to operate all of the functions of original remote. I will download IR 3.21; didn't realize there was a newer version of IR out there. Thanks much.

Ellen,
When I look at your file using IR 3.21 and DecodeIR, I see a clean learn using RC6 device code 4 for all of them, here's the OBCs/EFCs:

OBC EFC Bound Key
049 139 STOP
044 051 PLAY
048 147 PAUSE
092 176 SELECT
084 112 MENU
130 030 PROG/GUIDE
090 224 ARROW_LEFT
091 216 ARROW_RIGHT
088 208 ARROW_UP
089 200 ARROW_DOWN
001 010 1
002 034 2
003 026 3
004 242 4
005 234 5
006 002 6
007 250 7
008 082 8
009 074 9

Ellen,

you can have a look at the RM upgrade file in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files/4.%20RM%20Upgrade%20Files/DVD/PhilipsDVD1538.rmdu.
Although it is for a different model (DVD 762), the codes Rob has listed so far are exactly the same.
