9960 Extender problem

Post by danmonroe »

I've loaded the 9960 Extender (2) into my new Kameleon. I am pretty much able to set up everthing I want - new devices, key moves, etc. The problem I am having is to do with keypress & motion detection to activate the display. The behavior I see is that the remote totally ignores any motion and only turns on when I press a key that has a function assigned to it. It seems once I do press a key that is defined and the display is on, the remote behaves normally and as the display is fading because of the display timeout being reached I can shake it and it will wake-up but if I let it fade all the way out it will not activate again until hitting a defined key. Also I have tried the various combinations of the Backlight Settings options in the IR General menu but that made no difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I think you hit on another one of the Kameleons that gives the extender a hard time. Actually, the best I can tell only the second one. It just seems that there are a few out there that no matter how hard you shake it the extender does not notice the motion detector. I am not sure what to do about it since of the 3 or 4 that I have had none did that.

I assume you have the motion setting in IR set to use so if you can live with the quirk of the motion sensor I would set the first button press option to ignore so you don't accidently send a signal without knowing what button you pressed. Actually I have both set to ignore so I save batteries and live with having to press a button to turn the backlight on.

Thanks Nils. I can live without the motion sensor but regarding the "Backlight Off Button Action" , I set that to "ignore" and I still have very "weird" behavior". I have to press a key three times before the display turns on and then when it does it still sends the key.

I guess I have the really odd Kameleon...

Which RDF does IR pick when you do a fresh/new download from the remote?

Also, Look inside the battery compartment and let me know the model number. Something like 9760 B01.

It says URC-9960 BJ3

By fresh/new, do you mean with your software och just original software??

I should have been clearer. I meant shut down IR if it is running and restert it then download the remote (with the basic not the extender) and see what RDF it tries to pick.

If I'm not mistaken , it shows up right on the top bar of the program window after you do a download from the remote.
Just call me Zaphod (or Steve) --- I never should have started using numbers in a screen name but I just can't stop now.

ir.exe , the program you use to upload and download data from the remote.

OK, that confirms that the extender should work with the remote you have.

When you install the extender with IR to the remote you may see the remote backlight go off after the 2 blinks of the red dot on IR lower left. Then press any button and the light should go on. Then press TV release it and press and release the format button. You should see 4 or so blinks of the lower bar which means the extender is loaded. If you are not seeing this post your extender IR file in the diagnostics area of JP1 and post a link to it here so I can get a look at it. Don't forget to read the sticky on posting links to ensure the link works.

Just a note when running the extender, the "Backlight timer" is on .076 increments, so if you leave the default unextended value (3-8) in, the backlight will turn on/off very fast. I use 76 to get about 10 seconds.
