"Hello To All!", and a noob question aswell!!

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

"Hello To All!", and a noob question aswell!!

Post by Immune_Jam »

Firstly, let me say hello to everyone, I have a URC-7562 which I received as a present for Christmas.

It wasn't long before I started wanting to know "what are those 6 pins in the battery compartment for?" and found the Wonderful Wide Wacky World of JP1 (WWWWJP1 for short!!).

I have just got my USB JP1 cable, and am slowly working through everything, but I have a question about receiving/decoding IR signals.

I have a Pinnacle TV card (which I don't really use) that came with a remote and a serial IR receiver. I have plugged in the receiver, and using a program called "Serialwatcher" (a plug-in for WinLIRC) I can get data flow from all my remote controls.

Am I able to use this equipment to capture the signals and decode them for use in IR/KM? I have looked at GetIR, but my receiver must be wired up a little different, 'cause I don't get any data.

Any thoughts on how to utilise this?

Thanks, I hope to learn heaps about this stuff!

The 7562 supports learning and IR.exe can decode most IR protocols. In my experience OFA learning remotes are very accurate and since you can just post the file in IR, we can see the commands that you learn, if IR doesn't decode it. So for JP1 purposes I don't see it adding any new information that you can't get with learning.

If you are just curious, several of us regularly decode LIRC files here, so we probably can explain how to decode. You might learn a few commands to both the OFA remote and your PC and you can compare.

That's fine. I have used IR for a couple days now, and have become adept at learning and downloading the stuff fairly quickly.
Thanks for the reply.
